Hi Pawpet

Congrats to your new investment.. Like you, i was about to buy the same set (Bravia V40 is beyond my buget :'(  ) But when i went to the Audio house, i was told it is made in Indonesia... and he showed me JVC LCD set DX5 instead and was very impressed with the image especially to there moving screen..was told it is from Japan...

What is your thought?

I don't think it matters where it is made in as long as QC is there. I compared the Toshiba with the Philips and the Sharp Aquos, and the Toshiba wins it all. In terms of picture detail, colour, sound, ---- it wins hands down. I was also at Audio house and this guy was raving about the Nachos brand until i asked him about full screen adjustment for a 4:3 aspect....and he was dumbfounded - tell me it can't be done and then was no longer so interested in selling other brands to me. Also, he told me about having to buy a total of 10 digital cables each costing $80.00. I am a hifi enthusiaist but i did not see the logic of the 10 digital cables. I told him that I needed to check my specs to enusre that i really needed them. He insisted n insisted and I felt ...mmmm they are not very honest.

Go to Mega Discount store. The prices are better. You can test yr own DVDs on normal DVD players (not high definition ones) and also able to see SCV programs on the TV itself. No regrets for me !

May I know where did you get your Toshiba unit for S$2,999?

Thanks.

Yes,  where huh?  The price is same as the Amoi 37" selling at BIG.  What is the resolution of the JVC?

Hi guys..

went to another shop in Tampines today and enquire about JVC 37 inch DX5, he quoted me SGD 3699.  Guess what, the guy told me JVC panel is from japan but assembled in Thailand.  He, instead recommended me Hitachi (and said made in japan 100%) 37LD8800TA LCD TV at SGD 4080.  Compare the with Sharp Aquos side by side and Hitachi is better.  I think i should stop going for more shops comparison and get myself further confused ???.

Thanks and probably will check out the Toshiba set again.  BTW, can i know where is Mega Discount Store, sorry for my ignorance....

Mega discount store - I went to the one at Basement of United Square. Look for David. Very helpful guy. Allowed me to try my own DVDs, and to test out the sound etc etc on the TV itself.

I replaced the cable from the SCV socket to the SCV digital box and used a better quality RCA video cable to the TV. The Picture is WOW !  Clear and crisp ! Even the free to air channels - Ch 5,8, CNA ..... so clear that it is almost DVD quality. The next thing I want to experiment is changing the audio cable and see what happens.

after your great recommendation, I went to Courts to take a look. The 37" somehow looks much better than the 42", do you share the same observation?

This afternoon, went to a shop opposite Jalan Besar Seven Eleven (very near Sim Lim Tower and next to "Thieves Market").

Quoted $2780 for 37WL66E. Did a quick test (did nt bring any test disc with me) with the HDMI Toshiba player. The test disc was from Toshiba. Not bad. I like the picture but will go back with my own test disc to test again.

Hi LCD TV owners,

I have been eying a LCD TV, however, like to find out from current owners how is the image quality when watching sport program? All the stores I visited only play DVD video and cant really access the image quality of various programs.

Thanks in advance. :)

Hi I have also been eying this new WL66E model.

May I know if the response time is 8ms? The older model had response time of 12ms.

Some UK forumers complain abt ghosting when viewing fast moving objects with WL66. Any feedback from users?

Thanks

No problem on mine (Bravia V 40). That said, different models / different brands can have problems with motion judder on long pans - think of it like the whole screen moving in noticeable steps, instead of moving smoothly, when the camera pans from left to right or vice-versa. It's not related so much to the 8ms refresh rate (which pretty much everyone follows now) as it is to the video processing logic / circuitry and how good / bad the set is. This is why specs don't ever tell the whole story...

it's 8ms, but it does not reflect in the manual. I had read it in uk forum.no ghosting for me.
