luoxy Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 New to this forum, new to world of audio, need to get advises and suggest from whoever can give me a hand. any input will be appreciated want to get a separated HT system for my newly purchased Samsung 32' LCD, but with very limited budget of $900. I don't need a system that is fanastic but just a very basic entry system hopefully slightly better then those HTIB of about the same cost. AV receiver: ($400), Yamaha RX-V357/457, Denon AVR-1706, Marantz 4500/4600, Onkyo TX-SR502, Pioneer VSX-D515-S, so fast those are all low-end AVR I can find over internet, seems the Yamaha RX-v357 to be the cheapest. anymore suggestion? 5.1 speakers: ($250), Just any speakers that slightly better then 1-way computer speakers will do. any suggestion? O,ya, i need the rear speakers to be of screw hole type. DVDP: ($150), just any cheap DVDP with Mic input for Karaoka, any suggestion? In fact, after going thru this forum, i am quite tempted to get the JVC QP-F10 set for $799 which come with RX-F10 digital AVR, but the speakers is only 1-way and looks very cheap, somemore the DVDP doesn't have Mic. http://www.jvc-asia.com/sg/products/dvddetails.asp?id=53 And the Denon DHT-1356XP set also meet my budget but the AVR-1306 doesn't have component vedio input/output. http://www.denon.co.uk/site/frames_main.php?MID=3&ver=&Gruppe_A=1&Gruppe_B=1&Gruppe_C=4&action=detail&Pid=258&main=prod&sub=1 Any suggestion, advices, enlightening, ideas will be much appreciated.
sonofdbn Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 If you want to get the most for your money, it's worth considering buying second-hand. Keep in mind that in your budget you might also need to allow for for speaker stands, speaker wires and interconnects. From what you've listed, I think the JVC is a good choice because you get a good receiver which you can still happily use when you want to upgrade. At $250 for speakers, I'm not sure that you would be able to get anything much better than what comes with the JVC set.
luoxy Posted March 12, 2006 Author Posted March 12, 2006 Thx sonofdbn for your reminding of speakers stands, wires and etc. I thought the JVC speakers are very lousy ones and doesn't match with the JVC digitl amp at all. I thought i should at least get a speakers set with 2-way....here is the speakers specification. http://jsp.jvc-europe.com/files/instruction_manual/lvt1197-001b.pdf?PHPSESSID=bde98b4704d87884ced8a52e08e674dd sonofdbn or any brother can have a look for me see whether 250$ can buy something much then it? Thx in advance.
benzx Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Maybe you can start with 2 channel first, then slowli save up for the centre, surround and sub. ( an ok sounding, "mai hiam buay pai" subwoofer will blow your current budget already). Do consider used speakers too. In the meantime, still can enjoy 2 channel sound first while saving up ma. Dont worry, the Tammy clips are not DD5.1 or DTS. ;D ;D ;D just kidding on the last part.
luoxy Posted March 12, 2006 Author Posted March 12, 2006 thx benzx, ya, i understand that. my budget is just to little. Probably i should just concentrate on those combined HTIB selling at Harvey norman/courts..etc.
benzx Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 thx benzx, ya, i understand that. my budget is just to little. Probably i should just concentrate on those combined HTIB selling at Harvey norman/courts..etc. One of the factors to consider is whether you will feel the itch to upgrade in near future or not. If you think you can be contented with a HTIB (some sets are really not bad also la) for the next couple of years, then no problem lor. If you think 3months down the road, you might start upgrading to better stuff, then maybe you should consider saving up for seperate player, AVR,speakers lor.
dew Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 sorry to hijack but what is the diff between 1 way and 2 way speakers?
DIRTRUN Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 w" timestamp="1142310563"] sorry to hijack but what is the diff between 1 way and 2 way speakers? 1- way = single driver, usually cheap mid range only speakers, very narrow frequency responce not recommended even for surrounds 2- way = 2 drivers consisting 1 tweeter and 1 bass driver , minimum requirement in most speakers, in my opinion
dbchoong Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 1- way = single driver, usually cheap mid range only speakers, very narrow frequency responce not recommended even for surrounds Not totally true as there are maany very good full range single driver speakers too. ;D
DIRTRUN Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Not totally true as there are maany very good full range single driver speakers too. ;D Yup like my SVS PB12+, hehehe. But jokes aside you are right but talking about things which I can afford and all things being equal I would go for 2 drivers everytime, of course this is my opinion only. Regards. Dirtrun
luoxy Posted March 14, 2006 Author Posted March 14, 2006 1-way speaker of JVC, bundled with QP-F10 http://jsp.jvc-europe.com/files/instruction_manual/lvt1197-001b.pdf?PHPSESSID=bde98b4704d87884ced8a52e08e674dd Is this a really cheap sat speaker, isnt it? Is the Denon sat come with DHT-1356XP(link above) much much better than JVCs?
armoury Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I think Yamaha does packages where its entry level receiver is bundled with their own speaker package (which includes a modest but perfectly respectable (for the price) sub), whole thing is probably around $700-800. Having previously used the HTiB Cinemastation VS-10 (also $800, but about 4 years ago), I can say those basic Yammie speakers are pretty good value for money. Ask at most HT/audio shops, in particular KEC at Adelphi. Assuming it is $800, that leaves only $100 for a DVD player, at that price I guess just about any entry-level player will do -- or rather, will have to do. The other advantage of getting this kind of package, rather than an actual HTiB package, is that you can later upgrade bits piece by piece, e.g. first a better DVD player (since you have a decent display), then maybe a nicer stereo pair/front 3, new receiver or sub, finally the surrounds -- by which time the entire thing would have been replaced! HTiB packages are integrated, and usually can't be replaced piecemeal -- all or nothing, for those.
