I have it, but I doubt whether there's any noticeable difference between 6500 and the next level down (3500?). I suppose if you're downloading something it might make a difference. But even then the fastest I ever got was about 2500Mbps (that's bits, not bytes) downloading some dial-up software (!) from Singtel.

I'd prefer more upload and less download speed - might make my Skype calls better.

2500Mbps (Megabits per second) sounds like a lot still!

8 bits = 1 byte

1024kb = 1mb

So that is like 320,000kbps? Or is my calculation wrong?

I am on Maxonline 2000 and get around a paltry 150kbps so far.

That might be StarHub's way to get you to upgrade to 6500 (and subsequently the Ultimate). When I first got my MaxOnline 1500, I consistently get 900Kbps. When they upgraded us to 2000, I consistently get 1.2Mbps. Now I get a paltry 150-200Kbps. I measure my bandwidth here : http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest  So far San Francisco gives me higher speeds.

At the current speed, I can't even stream video properly. :(

I just used ckng's site to test for San Francisco and Los Angeles also.

Gave me download 1426kbps, upload 220kbps..

Los Angeles upload slower at 190kbps, but download the same.

Sorry - messed up the maths. 2500/6000 of the theoretical maximum - so 2500 kbps (bits) - about 250kBps (bytes) allowing for overhead (and ease of calculation).

Is this on the 6500 or 2000? If it's 2000, then it's very, very good!

I've been with SCV for about 6 yrs, When I 1st subscript to them using the 1000 line, it gave me about 400kbs downloading, but now after since SCV upgrade to 1500-2000 my download gets slower around aprox 150kbps.

6500 line can download up to 400kbps, it shows that SCV actually downgrading their line not upgrading, they are full of shit actually but I'm still with them because I'm kind of getting use to cable than DSL. Cable does give alot of problem when using LINUX and its easy to setup rather than DSL. DSL got a driver issue with Linux.

1 of my fren was a SCV technician before and he told me the 2000 line that we get actually are much slower about 800 and 6500 about 2000, so there you are got cheated without knowing. lol

They limited their pericous pipie lines of bandwith so they are in control of internet speed...

Is depand what you are doing usually they makerting you on local Singapore Internet Speed used to call SingaporeOne remember?

I doing IT for a few years and i know how ISP works...

That's why they should not even label it as 2000 or 6500, they are playing by the numbers. I'm a loyal regular subscriber of SCV for many years and judging by my experience using their service, it's getting sux day by day. Getting slower and slower.

More and more people are constantly downloading files, with people using client like Bittorrent...  all the operators are putting in some form of control to regulate the speed.

Hopefully, market monopoly can end earlier so that more company can come in and bring UP the service and bring DOWN the price.

I been with SCV since 1995 (as trial user) till now. Not only service going down and price going up. Speed are crawling as compared to the days when i'm using a 486(66mhz) machine.

If the Infocomm Development Authority cared more about consumers, they would require the broadband providers to state how they calculate the maximum speeds in the packages they sell.

While I'm fantasising, broadband providers should also state what their total SOLD bandwidth capacity is vs. their ACTUAL bandwidth capacity, what ports they block, whether they use any bandwidth throttling, and if so, what this is applied to.

At least then we would know what we were paying for.
