darthmax Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 LG DF9933P at $249 HDMI 1080i....Component 576p, 720p and 1080i... 7 in 2 multi memory card slot... DivX compatible.... Good thing is it come with memory card slot, bad news is HDMI cable is not included!
Doggie Howser Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 HDMI and upscaling alone isn't the answer :) It's also important to see how the deinterlacing is done... whether it flags the source properly, whether there are any chroma bugs, macroblocking, fails blacker than black or whiter than white.. etc
darthmax Posted March 2, 2006 Author Posted March 2, 2006 It is the same class as Toshiba & Samsung.... Price at $249 really can not expect much..... ;D

Desperado Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 How do we check all these? Can advise? thx... Most of the times your eyes will tell you, if you cannot, you are one of the lucky folks. If you want to be more analytical, can use Avia test DVD to point out those attributes. for blacker than black, you can use THX optimizer in some of your DVD to check. Very very simplified explanations. Chroma bugs: when you expect lipstick is full within a lip, the chromabugs make the lipstick leaks outside the lips at some place macroblocking: squarish - blocks like those found in bad VCD (or Japanese porn movies)

karlie Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Chroma bugs: when you expect lipstick is full within a lip, the chromabugs make the lipstick leaks outside the lips at some place macroblocking: squarish - blocks like those found in bad VCD (or Japanese porn movies) 99% of DVD players have the chroma bug. But I don't find it troublesome except in fixed images. More troublesome to me are DLP rainbows or Plasma "overdrive" (i assume it's the overdrive I am seeing)
slang Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 So what players you guys are using which allows playing of those upnorth friendlies...my samsung H850 players failed on me for that...
rogersk8ter Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Ive been using the sammy HD-850 for sometime now. The annoying thing i find is my Pio 435 screen flashes with DVD playback. It can be serious depending on different DVDs. What u call such defect?
xboxfan Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 So what players you guys are using which allows playing of those upnorth friendlies...my samsung H850 players failed on me for that... my marantz hdmi dvdp is able to play friendlies...no problem... :) but i prefer my non-hdmi dvdp to play friendlies and my hdmi dvdp solely for R1 and other region discs.... ;)
Desperado Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 99% of DVD players have the chroma bug. Is this a statistics or just general sweeping statement?
Magnet1624705822 Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I am using the Marantz 6600 DVD player....no problem at all. I am using the HDMI connection. The player allow me to switch off the sound output as my sound is coming from my HT. Good picture quality!!! Worth considering if you are looking for a mid-range DVD player.

ManYou Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I paid about S$540 for the Marantz DVD Player....So far I have not encounter any problem with any DVD. Me too. Bought mine at Funan. Slightly cheaper then what you paid. :) Love it. Good PQ & SQ.
slang Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 hws the comparison between this marantz and the pioneer player?
wslim22 Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Ive been using the sammy HD-850 for sometime now. The annoying thing i find is my Pio 435 screen flashes with DVD playback. It can be serious depending on different DVDs. What u call such defect? Yes. I do get flashes saying " HDMI Audio not supported"... I guess my LG panel does not support HDMI audio. Strange... Does nayone have the same problem?
Magnet1624705822 Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I bought mine @ Millenium Smarthome located @ level 2 of Funan Centre...bought it below S$540. So far...I do not have those problem that you mentioned. If the LCD TV can support HDMI...It should support both Audio & Video. The key benefit of HDMI is that it can support both audio and video in one single cable. You may wish to give LG a call to find out why.
