Can someone please help to verify if you have a similar setup?

I connect my CHT10 to XR55 sub out. On the XR55, I set all speakers to small and xover to 80Hz. On the CHT10, I set the xover switch to "direct" (bypass the internal lowpass filter in the sub). I suppose this should be the correct setup since the XR55 is doing the bass management and should filter LFE below 80Hz to the sub.

With the above setup, I can locate my sub easily when listening to music. This annoy me, so I tried playing with the sub's setting and find that by switching ON the internal xover of the sub and setting the xover freq to 80Hz, it solve my problem, the sub become invisible (sonically).

What is wrong here? Can someone advice?

XR55 owner with a sub, please try setting your xover on the sub to > 80Hz (150-200Hz eg.) and tell me if you can hear a difference.

Wah! XR55 X-over not working sounds very serious.

Think I better check my set over this weekend.

It should be pretty obvious when it's not working as you can localise the sub very easily.

Found something interesting that might explain the problem!

It is stated in the last page of the XR55 manual that when playing analog or PCM stereo source, sound is output from the subwoofer. Only Dolby Digital or DTS source will output LFE to the subwoofer.

I think it is not my XR55 xover fault but all XR55 should behave the same. The digital xover filter seems to work only on LFE channel from the source. That is why I seems to find the problem only when listening to my CD player connected via analog.

I will try to find a DTS calibration disk to confirm my assumption.

Ooowah too cheem for me... sorree aah but what is difference of 'sound output from subwoofer' and 'output LFE to the subwoofer'?

Can clarify?

I think what it is trying to say is that bass management is not activated when the source does not contain LFE channel. In other words, the sub out might be just a combined mono signal from the L+R channel when no LFE source is used.

I am only guessing here based on the info and experience. Need to confirm with experiment!

so does it means that for analog/stereo source, we shld rely on the x-over of the sub instead since the xr55 x-over will not kick in. another thought, if its true, does it means that for stereo listening using xr55, we cannot reply on the co-axial LFE output since it will output the full range freq since no x-over, but rather connect the sub as though its another main speaker..??? ???

I guess even if crossover faulty it will still default at the highest level ie 150hz rite?
