DVD Player Conversion .....

Recommended Posts

Just curious on the dvd conversion matter. OK , just like to know how do we know the dvd player is doing the right things and not as follows : -

1) NTSC disc is not convert to PAL and output to display sources.

2) PAL disc is not convert to NTSC and output to display sources.

NTSC signals can be converted to PAL output...but not in the common form of PAL50Hz,the output converted PAL output is 60Hz aka NTSC 4.43.

(This is the most common practise, minus the use of NTSC3.58 to PAL50Hz converter)

I have not seen anybody done PAL50Hz conversion to NTSC3.58 yet...

The Nintaus PDVD-N9769 can convert from PAL to NTSC 3.58. Just change the dvd player's Set-Up Menu option to output in NTSC and play back a R2 or 4 PAL dvd and the video output to the TV would be in NTSC. The picture quality suffers significantly as almost a 100 lines of resolution have to be removed in the conversion. It is very obvious in the sub-titles which would look broken up or jaggedy because of the removal of these lines.
