Qn abt my pioneer HTS

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I got a pioneer system and recently as I was watching my DVD. Saw this on the TV when I press the display on my DVD Player remote.

DTS 3/2.1

I have a centre speaker, LR speaker and 2 back LR speaker + subwoofer. Should it be a 5.1?

Why is it still shown as a 2.1?

Thanks.

Actually, 3/2.1 is the actual notation of 5.1 surround. Where 3/2.1 represents : 3 speakers in front/2 speakers behind with .1 subwoofer.

I expect 90% of HTS bought within the last 2 years are able to decode DTS/DD.

Care to describe your HTS? Otherwise further advise will just be stab in the dark.

cannot remember the actual model number...it is the one with the wooden stands for the back surround. All the speakers are in wood finish.

The Pioneer DV355 was a free gift with it.

I would assume u bought this HTS within the last 1 yr rite?

Did you connect the digital (optical or co-ax) output of the dvdp to the HTS?

Did you set the DVDP digital out to bitstream?

If yes to all of the above, then do you see any Dolby Digital or DTS logo on the display panel of the HTS?

If yes, then you are indeed getting 5.1 DTS/DD.

Like I said, 3/2.1 is the correct numerical representation of DD/DTS 5.1.

If not convinced, use THX optimode supplied on several high-profile THX DVDs to convince yourself. (U571 has it amongst many others)

Ah my apologies, u571 doesn't have THX optimode.

For sure Star wars 1, pearl harbour, toy story1 & 2 all have this thx optimode.

Inside, there are some basic audio/video test that test each channel individually amongst many other basic tests/

Of course, by now, I assume you already know how to activate the DD/DTS surround on your HTS. ;)
