recommend any good indoor antenna?

Recommended Posts

hi all,

i stayed on low floor (3rd) and is blocked by most building in the east.

My room TV can only tuned to Ch8 n 5 clearly

but the rest of the channels are either grainy or snowy pictures using the HDB TV antenna sockets. with SCV in the living room is good.

I would like to get a indoor antenna and would appreciate any recommendation on where and what brand to get. am i right to say a antenna with buid-in amp is better?

Thanks for reading

Since your room TV can only receive Ch 5 & 8 clearly, your

problem is that the transmission waves from other channels are blocked by the other HDB blocks, and any external antenna, even one costing thousands of dollars, cannot help you.

Suggest you spend the money to get SCV to install another SCV cable point in your room. That's money well spent, and at least you get a gurantee of receiving all channels clearly. :)

I'll also recommend tcw's suggestion. Don't spend unnecessary cash on those indoor antenna - in my opinion, they are unless.

Instead of getting SCV to rewire addition point, you can also get those electrician to do it for you - which is cheaper.

Hmm, there really is no guarantees if you place can get TV signals thru the air.

Some ppl in Marine Parade can get TV3 with a suitable Yagi-antenna perched on thier balcony.

But here a tip any RF engineer can give.

Buildings attenuate RF signals heavily.

If have to position the antenna pointing towards Bukit Batok TV antennas. (Locate Bukit Gombak hill, thats the antenna location)

Try at different places around the room.

Use antenna booster.

The best tip: Extend your SCV point. Its the best way.

hi both and all,

i found a solution to my problem.

i bought this model GMG2820 which is a transmitter and receiver of AV signals. it runs on 2.4 GHz

and it working perfectly right now.

I will need a VCR as the transmitter takes in RCA-input

and output RCA to any av channel on TV.

It look like two small circle antenna.

extracted from the box:

Audio/Video Transmit virtually interference free up to 300 feet away.

infrared remote controller to attach to VCR

Where to buy: Safe Superstore at Sim Drive or Best Connection

Cost S$198

picture quality is as good as direct from SCV wall socket.

To operate, just use your VCR remote at the receiver in your room.

Hope this info is useful to anyone

Does it need line of sight to transmit the signals ? I need to use it in my hall to transmit the signals to my room. Does it also provide the reciever's end device to recieve the signals ?

hi pcking

it does not rely on line of sight.

The spec for the transmitted and received is given

above on my previous message.

It penetrate walls without wiring.

it is based on 2.4GHz freq which is similar to DECT

cordless phone.

The package includes to 2 AC adapters, 2 RCA-RCA cables, 1 Transmitter unit, 1 receiver unit and 1 infrared remote sensor

How to connect:

Transmitter via RCA cables to VCR output AV signals and

with infrared remote sensor over the VCR infared remote

sensor.

Receiver via RCA to room TV's AV1 or AV2

How to watch TV:

in room switch to AV1/AV2

use your VCR remote in your room to control the VCR in the living room.

You can also transmitted DVD/VCD signals from the living room.
