Hi all, I'm look for recommendations for a musical subwoofer that's 8" or 10"  in a sealed enclosure.

My budget is about $1000.

It's for a small living room.

Any help appreciated

Obvious answer would be SVS SB-1000 Pro which is a sealed sub with a 12-inch driver plus 325W of amplification...all your boxes ticked.

Just worried the 12 inch might be a little boomy or slow. Do you know if stores allow customers to trial speakers at home here?

With a sub (or speaker ) which is a sealed design, you get the polar opposite of boomy and slow, which is the whole idea of a sealed enclosure in the first place.

It's impossible to generalise whether a speaker will sound like that based on the driver size or the cabinet design.

Just walk into any HiFi store up your way and audition the SVS SB 1000 Pro if they sell this sub.

If you like what you hear, ask for a trial at home. Can't hurt asking...

Yes, that's a common worry.  :(

All I can say is ... my 15" sealed subs have no problem keeping up with my Maggie (planar) bass panels.

Exact same question I had as OP, small living area, wanting a compact (as much as I can) design, tucking away in a corner behind the sofa.. can't find any other subs as good as the SB1000pro. Was going to go REL t5/7 but as i use for movies as well I can't turn down a 12" vs 8/10.. any other suggestions in a similar price bracket?

Anyone have thoughts on Wharfdale, Jamo and/or Polk subs?

In your budget I would second (third, fourth?) the rec. for the SVS SB1000 Pro. At $899 hard to beat. I don't believe Jamo et al at that price range come close. Read the reviews, pull the trigger ;)

I find this guy full of cliche mythological madness.

He spends more time talking about analogies rather than the topic at hand.

What do you mean exactly?  I agree with that guy 100%.

I have never ever heard that Rel and Svs are the same. The usual complain about Rel is that it's expensive (power/driver size/price ratio). There is never complain about integration like with many other brands.
