mundabble
Howdy esteemed audio folks - does anyone have experience with using this all-in-one? Couldn't see it mentioned here from a search. From the reviews/other forums on the net seems to stack up better on the whole than eg the NAD M10 and in some regards the Naim Atom, largely due to RoomPerfect correction. Looks like it'd trump the new Cambridge Audio Evo amp too. I see a few local retailers stock/can source it. Seems pretty well featured and delivers on SQ, for the price range. Thoughts welcome. Boratri
I’ve tried both, the 1120 and 3400 at home. My view is that if you have bright speakers, the lyndorfs win hands down but if you have warm speakers or need something to bring sparkle and detail, the Naim is possibly the better bet. I have a Naim nova and both Lyngdorfs added a welcome warmth. The only thing I found was that it sucked some of the dynamics and brilliant top end out of my system so I stuck with the Naim. However, if you are after a lovely warm sound then go for the 1120. But you’d probably need to use it with a separate power amp because by itself it struggles a bit with just 60 wpc, unless you have really efficient speakers.
mundabble
Many thanks - very useful insight. Day after I posted this, one came up for sale here in the classifieds, so I pulled the trigger anyway! Yet to setup properly and flex and test. My 4 ohm speakers are relatively sensitive (?) at 88db, my room isnt huge and I dont really run high volumes, so hoping the 125 wpc should cut it for my needs. They're relatively neutral with a touch of warmth, but my room is pretty bright (windows, hard floors etc) so with Lyngdorf's extensive EQ options I think I'll find something that works for my ears OK. Plus a new Naim was out of budget, hadnt seen any decent used offers lately. I'll call it fate! cheers Edited June 10, 2021 by mundabble
arpasquill
Ah so you bought it! I was soooo tempted as I've had my eye on it for some time. If it's not for your let me know But I would be very interested to hear your thoughts anyway as my room is very much like yours and I would be running it with some B&W CM1s (until my KEF Metas arrive) Cheers! Ha yep I did - timing was too coincidental! Sorry for slow reply. I'm coming from an amp with 125W pc into 8ohms/250 into 4 so I notice the lower headroom with the 1120 but it still goes plenty loud enough! It's nice, definitely a smoother-sounding amp taking the edge off, rather than a super exciting sound. I ran roomperfect and there was quite a noticeable difference for the better - surprisingly, with my non-ported speakers pretty darn close to the front wall (about 15cm - far from ideal, but practical constraints like on tv bench, small space, got a toddler so no cant do stands etc etc) RP actually beefed up the lower end (still clean sounding though) and improved soundstage presence, particularly for the mids. Was definitely impressed. I'd never get another amp without some kind of room correction, going on that experience and everything I've read! All the other functionality with the app/browser for settings is solid and reliable, and despite others reporting it I have (so far) no issues with HDMI arc with my TV (LG). Breath of fresh air after using almost hopeless KEF apps! And look - if for some reason it doesn't work out (or I come across a tonne of cash somehow, have a brain snap and throw it at the 3400), will let you know, ha!
arpasquill
Great feedback! There is another 1120 on sale here but as I've just lost a month of income it's tricky to pull the trigger! Your setup sounds very much like mine (though I have 2 small kids!) and it's nice to hear how people fit these items into their systems instead of reading dealership blurb! I am surprised that there are such limited reviews of this unit online. Enjoy the music!

You still enjoying the 1120 ? I got sick of my Nova and the brightness. I kept blaming my Sopras but the dealer told it was the amp and kept pushing me to try the 3400. So I took it home and it made such a huge difference. It makes my Sopra 1s sound like a floor stander. Big and bold and warm. The 3400 has a few more tone controls and these are subtle but make a difference. I bought the 3400 and I’m appreciating it more every day and playing more music than ever.

Though temporarily been out of commission recently, just because I'm doing some room setup reshuffling, looking to get it flexing again soon. Given it's in my living room with TV setup, did get me thinking about a Lyngdorf AVR for more than a 2.1 setup - but those things are $$$$$ - so can't see it happening anytime soon! Good to hear you're getting what you're after in your Sopras and listening to more tunes.... that's what it's about at the end of the day, right?!!
