And never on sale on iTunes... thanks i'll look out for it along with us remake... we are certainly spoilt when comes to this genre of mini series

Odd there are two "remakes" of it, each their own thing though. The whole cartel US Mexico nature of the Fx series took it to another dark gritty level IMHO. I'm not precious on remakes. I honestly prefer the US The Killing way over the original, and have to say the story choices and ending of the US one on what happened had me weeping it was so heartbreaking and we'll directed/acted/produced. And it then continued strongly. Joel Kinnaman is fantastic in it also, and a Nordic link! 1
betty boop Posted August 31, 2021 Author Posted August 31, 2021 I've been very quiet...as been binging through Spiral which I finished last week... what an excellent series ! the characters make it... and the twists and turns.. There are some excellent moments too.. I remember one a simple scene where a key role suddenly dies and a simple interchange sends literally a shiver up your spine. also some light hearted scenes...so nicely done. eg one below where Lola asks lawyer Eric Edelman... are you doing this for me or josephine... the series finished nicely .... and i am pretty sure there is no more Spiral... which is a shame... got right into that one 1
betty boop Posted August 31, 2021 Author Posted August 31, 2021 (edited) so what next after spiral well... since last week decided to head back to some Nordic Noir with Springtide... lovely story... of Olivia who is at police college and given an assignment over the summer break to investigate an unsolved coldcase... well as happens when she starts to look into it ...it was a case of her fathers (who was police man and since passed away).. Olivia does the role brilliantly ... it is such a different sweden over summer... rich green vibrant..vs the greys and cold sweden of The Bridge, Wallander or The killing... refreshing... it has the light heartedness of these series and excellent work in developing the characters ... I must say too the picture quality on this series is a standout especially given this is SBS on demand catchup ! ... some of the main characters below... leaving out quite a few others as well... this is so character filled ! Series 1 ends amazingly too ... such a big massive hook at the end ... just out of left field, just as you think its all solved and settled looking forward to series 2... mark rega Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Nordic versions of the Killing and the Bridge were excellent .. Hinterland or to give its its true title Y Gwyll ….in Welsh ( yn Cymraeg) is filmed In Welsh and then an English ( Saesneg) version is made … love the drama but it makes me homesick have you seen Wire in the Blood with Robson Green … well worth watching 1

Looking at the similarities I'm beginning to think it might not work. Why such close copies? I thought straight copies were an american thing.

They also have the tendency to turn everything they touch into soft-edged vanilla that has all essence of what made the original so good bleached out of it. There may be exceptions but I cannot think of a single one right now. 1

They are each their own thing with their own takes and strengths. I like them all for what they are. And as a whole, I'd have to say for some of these multi country "re/makes" in two of the cases I think the US versions have more strenghts. The US make of The Bridge was brilliant, especially where season 2 went. And The Killing, man, aside fro, the powerful moving (to me) last episode of season 1, where it went on subsequent series was just so damn strong. It is sort of often the case with remakes of series (even movies) that the first is closer, then followings go their own ways.

I thought The Tunnel was excellent but The Bridge was in the next league and absolutely worth watching even if you’ve watched The Tunnel first. The US version of The Bridge was very disappointing compared to the original IMO. 2 1

Maybe I just got hooked into the Show's great theme music... Maybe after Bosch you may like to get into 'The Shield' and 'Southland' ...rip snorta US TV crime series...... 2

Plus, not being on SBS means that you don't get all of those super annoying ads that interrupt the narrative two or three times per episode. 2 1
unclemack Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 (edited) This isn't noir but it is from Norway and it is sensational. Based on interviews conducted with bankers and high flying financiers, it follows four, very rich and sociopathic friends as they live life on their own terms... Tough to watch at times and the four main characters are completely abhorrent. I'm hooked. On SBS. EXIT Edited September 9, 2021 by unclemack 1
betty boop Posted September 10, 2021 Author Posted September 10, 2021 I noticed Bosch's hifi... had my curiosity... some research finds its "McIntosh MX110 pre-amp/tuner Marantz 6300 turntable McIntosh MC-240 power amplifier Ohm Walsh loudspeakers" courtesy of reddit poster MatteoAttenborough 1
JukKluk2 Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 In the A Darkness More than Night book Bosch plays CDs. The TV series is way cooler in terms of his system. 3 1

Tony ray Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Been watching the bridge usa now. Just as background sort of stuff but cannot remember watching 3 versions of a series before. they have gone from porcshe to a ford bronco which I love. 2
PeKay Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 I’d thoroughly recommend Hidden. It’s Welsh language (so not Scandi) but really quite dark and with lots of slow burn menace (especially the first series). I’ve seen most of the series mentioned here and agree with posts. Would also add Black Spot - French quirky noir. 1
