GregWormald Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 Not a TV show but a film in the genre—Riders of Justice from Denmark. Drama, mystery, revenge, BLACK comedy, all fuelled by Mads Mikkelsen. It's way more complex than Rotten Tomatoes makes out. 2

Ian McP Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 Nordic noir sci fi, a new sub genre perhaps? Katla https://www.netflix.com/au/title/81133094 < The catastrophic eruption of subglacial volcano Katla turns a nearby community’s world upside down as mysteries begin to emerge from the ice. > First two episodes suitably creepy! 1 1

I do have high bandwidth nbn internet here and probably getting the best netflix has to offer. Lovely sound track too.. with a 5.1 mix that beautifully upmixes to 7.1.6 with neural - X . Very enjoyable we are upto episode 3 on series 2 already was tempted to binge through last 2-3 episodes but it got late. Did skim back through for some screen shots ... some scenes and characters... Enjoyed series 2, love the Paris by night scenes! Series 3 in the works! 1

betty boop Posted June 28, 2021 Author Posted June 28, 2021 (edited) Really enjoyed "unforgotten" and finished that off last week I do wonder if there is another series of that coming. it has a nice calm sense to it and motors along at a steady pace... great acting and characters hope comes back for another ... blood lands seems to have vanished from SBS on demand.. well maybe cant see it as no subsequent episode... perhaps will pop up this week to continue on another tangent and on the crime drama side rather than nordic noir...wife and i fired up the latest instalment of Jack irish...we have really enjoyed the previous series and this one is pretty good too... difficult to think back to links from previous series... but slowly coming back... and great characters in this one and like the local settings ... Billy checked out an episode of Cardinal... liked... will keep watching... nice touch to it with the canadian indian side to partner detective thats french Canadian ... remembering that quirky mix of acccent now having worked in those parts decades ago for some reason also reminding me of northern exposure... some will remember that one...possibly just the setting and acting... JukKluk2 Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Who remembers Due South from, what?, thirty years ago; the square peg Canadian Mountie in the round hole that is Chicago? Been a long time since I last saw it. Lead actor Paul Gross was making silly money back then, and may still be doing so. Made to appeal to our (distant cousins) in the good old Yewessay so it was a bit vanilla, but still had a certain charm at the same time. Possibly age is giving my memories a rosy tint. 1

Never saw it but he's quietly made a couple of great movies (as a director and actor). Check out Hyena Road. 1
betty boop Posted July 26, 2021 Author Posted July 26, 2021 been quietly continuing on with the Nordic Noir. sped through 3 series of The Bridge finishing that last week... wow what a series... i am not sure why i never got into it to start with ... perhaps completely thrown by the main character Saga and gosh you have got to get to know her to understand amazing performance from her. Really really enjoyed the series... am putting it up there in lead roles with wallander, the killing and marcella (s1). and boy ... how on earth did she end up in that porsche ? it amazingly sold at auction for $125k GBP to charity following the series...so well it was known there are so many hilarious lines and scenes with Saga ! and really well developed characters around her. do you miss watching a series ? sad its finished and no more ? anyways considering jumping on Bordertown next 2

betty boop Posted July 27, 2021 Author Posted July 27, 2021 ps a good interview here with Sofia Helin on her playing the lead character of Saga Noren on "The Bridge" https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2012/may/12/bridge-sofia-helin-saga-interview ps if watched the series and want to be reminded of Saga, just google "saga noren quotes" for a bit of a giggle
betty boop Posted July 28, 2021 Author Posted July 28, 2021 (edited) been sucked into the Spiral ! really is rather good. getting right into it. the actors and personalities are excellent and it really is quite complex with parallel cases following along the main underlying storyline. series 1 has a very drab - bleak - blue - green look to it ... nothing like the Paris I remember ...but suspect its either intentional or just age of it perhaps ... not sure .... but certainly adds to the seedy feel Edited July 28, 2021 by betty boop 1
