Agreed - just starting out and leaning towards local manufacturers. I'm sure we have many world class ones! And no need to ship heavy items halfway around the world.

If I were looking for a new amp for my main system, Aspen Amplifiers is top of my list. Only downside is the Alpha Nirvana is more powerful than I require. I need 10WPC max  :)

I notice Pure Audio’s website no longer works post Gary Morrison‘s passing - are they still in business?

Thank you.  Have removed it from above list, and will also edit the main thread.

Quite a long list, didnt realise there were so many from Australia.

Which ones do an OTL tube amp for high impedance headphones?

I think McChanson does, but any others?

Would love an Australian version of Bottlehead crack.

Yes he has passed away last year (RIP Peter), but Peter Stein's ME (Modular Electronics) amps would have to be top of the audiophile list.

Cheers George

Saw OAD at 2023 hifi show melbourne. FABULOUS gear. I spent my first hour just listening to his lovely speakers and wonderful amp.

Big fan also of the OAD gear, Jon de Sensi has been around the hifi industry for a long time- and still seems to be improving with his creations!

The speakers were wonderful l thought.

I loved his amps too. Saw one of his amps being used in another room as well.

Of possible interest to Australian members are Ecofan valve amplifiers made by the late Murray Dick. If any are languishng and in need of repair I can provide the circuit diagrams and schematics. I have circuits and transformer data on the Ecofan Thermonic II, Audion 14, Superaudion Marks I, II, III, IV, V, VI and VII push-pull amps, Mark VIII single ended, Micro 10 SE, Triode 2000 SE, Triode 45 SE, Triode Triode 6A3 / PX4 / Type 45 SE, 'big bottle' OTL, Superaudion OTL-OCL Lab Ref, Superaudion Lab II OTL (these three use 6080 output tubes) power amps and some early 'All Triode' phono amps, Phono Equaliser II, Ten Tube Preamplifier and Ecofan Line Amplifiers (9 pin and octal socket). I also have circuits for his Bufferzone and Boost It and various preamp power supplies.

Although he uses Chinese valve amps as the starting point for his hybrid amps to save you money, Joe Rasmussen's JLTi "Beyond Triode" hybrid integrated/power amps, are rebuilt from the ground up in south-west Sydney.

They are among the most musical amps you will ever experience.

Check out Joe's website, and if you can, go to his studio for a listen.

I don't think he's updates his website in years. I've heard his setup and can't say it really moved me.

When did you listen to it? Sound-wise it is pretty well unrecognisable compared to a few years ago. Did he have his Garrard 401 turntable at the time?

The amp is now a hybrid, with a solid state front end powering the valve backend. That's only from just before Covid. I think it is extraordinary.

Yes, the website is appallingly presented, but it nevertheless has a wealth of new material if you can dredge through to find it.

A couple of hours in his studio is well worth the time, in my opinion.

It would have been at least 4 years ago I reckon. Was definately pre covid. I took my Oppo there to be slightly modified. He did a nice job on that, plus i purchased a couple of his interconnects which are also quite good. VERY good value for money I must say and they're not too far away from sounding like my Audioquest Colorados. Mind you've I've passed the interconnects on to a mate, and kept the audioquest in the system. When I heard my oppo through his current system, I thought, well technically it may be all good, but it's not sounding very musical to me. The speakers he'd built looked fantastic I must say.
