I am loving this Tidal thingy. Awesome quality. Much improvement over Mog. I am streaming through Auralic Aries.

I might also trial Deezer premium before free trial ends.

How do you find the Lightning DS app as a GUI for tidal on the Aries @@k3here (or for any other streaming service you've used). Interested to know how close it is to the Tidal IOS apps.

I'm planning to move up from an SBT to improve my streaming experience which ever service that may end up being. Ease of use / functionality is important to me, as is SQ.

So I have Tidal, Spotify and Quboz all set up on a BlueSound PowerNode (wonderful thing btw), and all are excellent. My preference for jazz & classical is Quboz - they really have a terrific library. Tidal is wonderful as well, and offers superb choice and flexibility. Spotify probably has everything you could want, but quality is arguably down a notch. All up cost for all 3 is around $60 a month for the three.

I feel they all are extraordinary value for money, and I am really happy to pay the subscriptions. If only TV was like this.

I haven't tried the iOS apps yet but find the Tidal to be nicely integrated into the Lightening DS. Very easy to set up and navigate. Features in Lightening seem basic but I can't think of anything that's missing

My major gripe at the mo is that Lighting Ds is still only available for iPad.

Can Tidal stream through the Oppo 103/105?

Not that I can do.   Maybe Oppo will add an App for it to the player.

I am have been using the Tidal service for about a month already. Signed up using Getflix to setup my account at $19.99 USD for the Lossless version.   Then disabled the Getflix and have had no issues using it via Chrome, my Sony Z2 Android phone, and my Meridian MC200/MS600 system.

Good sound quality.   Only thing is they don't have the depth in tracks that Spotify has, but as they grow hopefully that will change.   But I love the intergration with the Meridian gear which seems seemless.

The lack of music in Tidal is beginning to irritate. Especially annoying is the art work of albums showing that are not available for streaming.

e.g. a search for Mark Knopfler shows 18 albums. Only 2 available for streaming. All are available on Spotify.

I can hear the superior quality of Tidal but it's more about the music for this punter.

+1

Why do they have artwork if you cannot listen to it?

But

Sound quality is surprisingly good.

Just started my trial period today. As said in previous post I am surprised how good it sounds. Today I have compared to Spotify on my office Bose system.

I am still struggling a bit with the monthly price.

Good fun though.

I currently use Qobuz via VPN, mostly during daylight hours as my download speeds suck at night.

I tried the Tidal US service in comparison for a while and at the time, found them similar except that Qobuz was a better fit for me as it had a lot more of the semi-obscure electronic music I like, which is usually European based.

I am waiting for my letter to tell me my NBN connection is ready to go, once that is up and running I will give Tidal another whirl.

Don't forget that there is a cheaper subscription price similar to Spotify and others (and at the same quality as them) so you don't have to pay $24pm.

The library has some holes, but there are other artists that have a major abundance over Spotify as well so don't go by feedback, go and look for yourselves with the artists you love. Eg a slightly obscure artist I like is Cocoa Tea (reggae). Tidal has every album plus their live stuff. That's 19 albums for a little-known band.

I'm loving it. Sounds great at home, and all the convenience in my car.

I've found the same. Some stuff that I expected to be there wasn't. Stuff that I knew wouldn't be there isn't (FUGAZI, Godspeed You! Black Emperor both anti-corporate acts). I got a wonderful surprise in the early hours of this morning when I discovered the entire Bardo Pond catalogue was available. Including all of their exclusive-limited-edition CD-R's. Awesome. I would have paid big bickies for them if I saw them on CD! I love mining for gold. Happy listening.

Cheers,

LF :)

I'm over the moon happy with tidal, swapped from Spotify Premium and the sound quality was well and truly enough to justify its cost, it sounds as good as my flac files do, game changer I think!

This afternoon I have been reliving my youth, or part of it, with some dub & trip hop. Anyone remember Renegade Soundwave & "The Next Chapter of Dub" from early 90's? and of course Portishead.

Hi Andrew,

I have a 12" single of Renegade Soundwave's "The Phantom" somewhere around here. I haven't heard the album though.

Portishead has aged well, they are still a favourite of mine after all these years.

Cheers,

Leigh

No Fugazi? Now that sucks...

I always check to see if there is any Fugazi available! Ian is still waving the anti-corporate flag. Good on him. Everything they achieved they did on their own terms.

Streaming Tidal via Auralic Aries and very impressed by SQ and integration with Lightning DS.

Just finished Nitin Sawhney mix CD- no drop out or movement down res at any stage.

Not an off the beaten track person for obscure artists therefore I have found everything I searched for so far....

Its not as good as a ripped CD played in 32 bit from server/NAS but its close.

Got Tidal setup on my W4S music server and SBT yesterday based on John Darko's review/website without dramas.

Loving the quality, although I miss not being able to set a 'radio station' based on a particular style of artist like you can do in Pandora.

Having only used it for 24 hours, I get the feeling that the money I used to spend on CDs can now be better diverted to the purchase of vinyl  .

Cheers,

Anyone running Tidal on a iMac ?,

hi there pcking,

yep, I'm running it on an iMac, had to load and use Google Chrome and Flash Player to get the highest quality. Sounds great through a Rega DAC. No problems so far except for the very occasional dropout from what I expect is high local internet usage, what about you?

hey Al,

if you don't install and run them, you don't get the highest quality streaming available from Tidal and the HIFI indicator next to the volume slider is not lit. Having said that, not all tracks are at the highest available rate apparently, as I have seen this lit for one track and then not lit for the next track.

I experienced some dropout both before and after I went to Chrome etc so, dropout at both low and high bitrates. Nothing severe but at around 1800 hours it gets a bit more frequent.

The FAQs have SOME info but are not that comprehensive.

Yes, it would be nice to have the radio station option, like Spotify and Pandora. I don't think Quboz supports radio either.

Based on Leigh's recommendation listening to Oliver Nelson “The Blues and The Abstract Truth†as I type. Terrific line up - including Bill evans, Freddie Hubbard, Paul Chambers, Clark Terry, Eric Dolphy. Lovely Sunday morning jazz. Highly recommended and @@ferchersan - thanks for sharing ;)

Last evening I was on a Muddy Waters quest, started with the excellent "Folk Singer" (still not a patch on good vinyl but hey...) and made my way around some of his great albums. Wonderful thing is you can easily do that.
