att23 Posted April 10, 2021 Posted April 10, 2021 (edited) Haven’t listened to this for a while. Edit: In Blu-ray surround of course Edited April 10, 2021 by att23 2
att23 Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 I have had this sacd from analogue productions since its release years ago, forgotten that it also include a 5.0 surround layer, cos there’s misprint or no mention on the disc or back cover at all. Anyway, tonight some online comment reminded me about it, the rest is history. Never gonna listen to this sacd in stereo again - blown away by the soundstage - even though it seems my rear (side) speakers are only playing very soft ambient sounds. 2
Benje Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 (edited) 3 channel isn't it? It is fantastic. (which explains why you don't hear anything from the side speakers). Edited April 17, 2021 by Benje

This minimally miked set, ( read the cover notes for more info ) remains a classic on all fronts. The remaster from several years back was ok but rather compressed. This one is the INTERVENTION RECORDS SACD, from mid last year. Shane Beutner is doing remarkable reissue stuff , and this is one of the very best. How much more can you squeeze out of 16bit digital ? Well, with vastly improved mastering chain and great care, quite a lot it seems. This is a total knockout! Billy Thanks for the post. I had completely forgotten about this album! Now the search is on to find it on SACD 1

It’s proper 5.0 on this one. Much better than other 3.0 releases. Unlike the Oscar Peterson We Get Requests, which was 3.0 and I prefer the stereo. When it’s 3.0, nothing comes out at my rear (side) speakers at all. Edited April 18, 2021 by att23

On 29/03/2021 at 9:13 PM, stand said: I don’t think so but I could be wrong. Please let me know if I am wrong. The only DSOTM SACD (2.0, 5.1) release was the 2003 30th Anniversary, under Capitol Records (which I have) & EMI (which Stand has); see Discogs. MFSL (Mofi) only released Vinyl and CD (see this) and MFSL do only stereo, not multi channel. The Quad version was released as a blu ray audio (outside scope of this thread) in an expensive box set, together with CDs. That Quad version was scored 9.83 by Quadraphonicquad (QQ) and the SACD was rated 8.5. If anyone is looking for good multi channel SACDs, DVD-As, that QQ poll is a good reference point. While some on the list are out of print, the top 250 are worth considering, assuming of course they are to your music taste. I can strongly recommend the top SACD, Santana's self named album as well as Santana Abraxas in Quad.

What I find with Vocalion (mainly 70’s music) and sister company Dutton (mainly classical), is that their release can be hit or miss, especially with Dutton. However, they are very affordable, much cheaper than bigger company sacd, so I happily buy directly from their own website and patiently wait for a month. I like to support smaller audiophile record companies. 1

att23 Posted June 2, 2021 Posted June 2, 2021 @Stump shipping took a long time, probably doesn’t help with COVID-19 situation, but I can’t complain when it works out like A$25 per SACD including shipping. 1

cafe67 Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 (edited) Arrived today, sounds good , but I don’t really have anything to compare to, unless an old Bali tape counts (Edit) actually having played this over twice, very good indeed seems well recorded/mastered not loud remaster and sounds very dynamic. acoustic tracks are a nice touch with guitars and drums. Well pleased with purchase. Edited June 28, 2021 by cafe67 2
