I’m trying not to play the same SACD twice other than if I have 2 different versions on SACD so I’m hoping I haven’t played this up until today.

Very interested to hear your thought on this one @stand. The dynamic range site indicates the three JAPAN albums were all rather compressed in comparison to first edition CD, and even the remasters from a few years back. I know D.R. isn’t everything, and I do love sacd when used to its full potential, so are these a useful improvement???

Billy I’m so sorry but I can’t comment because i don’t own the first edition CD or even the remastered. I’m happy to post my copy to you and if you have the others to compare, i would love to know your thoughts. I’ll pay for postage both ways. Please pm me with your details so I can get the ball rolling.

Isn't this one quadraphonic whereas the Mofi one just stereo?

I don’t think so but I could be wrong. Please let me know if I am wrong.

I am no expert, I thought there’s only 1 version of SACD released so far, so I assume since mine is surround sound, yours must be too. I have attached photos of mine, so you can check if same version. Apart from the sticker on my front case, the bottom right the back also printed as 5.1 surround sound.

The first edition record, CD and even cassette were mastered with great care. This minimally miked set, ( read the cover notes for more info ) remains a classic on all fronts.

The remaster from several years back was ok but rather compressed.

This one is the INTERVENTION RECORDS SACD, from mid last year.
Shane Beutner is doing remarkable reissue stuff , and this is one of the very best.

How much more can you squeeze out of 16bit digital ?

Well, with vastly improved mastering chain and great care, quite a lot it seems.

This is a total knockout!
