HumminGuru Kickstarter

- Retail price US $349

- Flat rate international shipping US $60

- Early bird support US $299

- Expected delivery July 2021

A few concerns I have:

- Fan drying process. Did someone say hot air or air flow create statics?
- how practical is it if the water is drained every time we clean a record? Isopropyl alcohol is very costly these days... Should the drained solution be reused?

- is 10 minutes long enough for a deep cleaning?

I have the KLAudio and max cleaning time is 5 mins and works a treat.

I'm in at this rate.

I've spent far too many wasted dollars (at AUS$250 a time) getting various US that simply break, with no recourse.

Would be nice to have one that last more than a few months.  ?

On the fan dry, I would remove the record after the US is completed and then use my Disc Doctor vacuum I think.

Skip the 'air dry fan blow' part.

I would expect that the actual guts of it are pretty similar to all Chinese made US cleaners at this price??

Perhaps there is indeed better recourse with this solution if it packs up?

Only one at a time’s a bit annoying.

Agree, skip air dry.  Odd that a designer in the know would do this?  I’d do the same - use my vacuum unit to finish off.

It looks like it drains to a tank, so at least you could recycle this fluid.  I can’t see anywhere if this “automating drawing” can be switched off...

Hmmm.  Rather tempting........

Totally agree.

I think it is a brilliant design concept - I hope it comes to fruition as planned.   I had a very expensive Audio Deske Vinyl cleaner become a very expensive boat anchor when it would no longer pump water from the tank into the cleaning compartment. The machine was sealed and unserviceable by anyone  apart from the factory in Germany . Repair  and transport costs were laughable.

What I love about the Humming Guru is that you manually  add the water to the top at the start of each wash cycle and it will drain via a simple solenoid valve.  This greatly reduces the complexity, cost and reliability issues for automated record cleaners. Besides, having litres of  polluted water sitting stagnant in a record cleaner for long periods of time can get smelly and is undesirable.  With this you can have containers of clean distilled  water nearby and throw away the waste after record cleaning sessions, rather than let it stagnate.  And it will last longer too.

In my experience the fan drying of automated record cleaners can give better results than the vacuum on turntable style cleaners.  I've owned both. The air drying is thorough and there is no contact made (like a vacuum arm)  which reduces static build up.

The VPI/Disk Doctor vacuums are designed to do one side at a time.  The records will come out wet on both sides from the Humming Guru which means that one wet side will be placed  face down on the Disk doctor turntable.  That could  cause problems for the dry side  once the record is turned over.

I don't use mine that way, and the Disc Dr V has only a tiny label-sized turntable, meaning I can do both sides wet, one after another with no ill effects.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for reaching out.

To answer your question, there are three function modes you can choose with HumminGuru, 1. Cleaning only, 2. Drying only, 3. Auto (clean and dry in one step).

So yes, to use your method, you can simply choose the cleaning-only mode to wash your records, then take it out and finish it off with a vacuum.

Hope this answers your question.

Thank you. Let us know if you have any questions.

Best,
HumminGuru Team

At least this machine is affordable......making one LP at a time a reasonable trade off. I might even consider this unit!xD

The cheap Chinese US machines only really have the guts to do one record at a time, any more and the clean is compromised. My only worry with this machine is that they use the same low quality internals as the Chinese machines. Being from HK, it concerns me.

I’ve been thinking positively about this product, it should come with a reasonable warranty, minimum 1 year, so it should have the better quality parts, perhaps wishful thinking. I don’t know who Happy Well international are but their pitch seems to convey that a quality product will be designed and delivered, time will tell.

The Happy Well website says they are a Toy manufacturer.

Some of the best audio companies in the world started out making products in a vastly different field. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I have been using a Chinese ultrasonic bath for over 10 years without any trouble so I  would be confident in purchasing one of these when they become available.  I love the simplicity of the unit even though I'm not happy about 1 lp at a time.

Even the high-end US cleaners are one record at a time.

As an owner of a Degritter I can vouch for the air drying function.  It does a much better job of drying than my vac (record Doctor V).  I don't seem to have any static issues whatsoever.

Seems like an interesting unit for a good price.  Having a unit to both clean and dry means you can set and forget - and I highly value that now.  The only key downside I can see is that there is no filtration system, rendering the water good for maybe only a couple of uses?  Could be wrong - but I'm shocked how much dirt the filter picks up on records that 'appear' spotless.

Correct!  :)

So it means you really have to DIY, to get an optimal solution.  xD

I have put together a 10l (so wider-than-normal), 60kHz tank that enables me to clean 5 LPs at one time.  (At 60kHz, record spacing only needs to be 1"; 40kHz transducers need 1.5" spacing.)

This is much more efficient (than 1-at-a-time).

I've asked them the question on a Warranty, but they haven't replied.

A bit reluctant to BUY until they do... I'm sick of these things breaking on me.
