Hey guys,

Recently purchased a rel sub and they recommend to use both high level and lfe input (as I want to play stereo music and watch movies). I have followed their setup guide but still feel like it is not setup properly as there are moments of double bass (their setup videos are so brief). Can anyone clarify the setup procedure including running Audyssey. The ultimate goal as I perceive it, is to set it up so that the sub acts as an "extension of bass" to the front L and R, whilst also dealing with low frequencies from the other speakers and also playing the effects from the dedicated .1 channel. Can I still get this benefit from just using the LFE input and using crossovers set in AVR?

Thanks

The only reason I would use the speaker inputs on a sub would be if the amplifier didn't have a dedicated LFE output.  The audyssey instructions should come with the amp, all it does for the LFE channel is work out where the low frequency drops off on your mains so the sub can fill in.  Most people seem to have to manually adjust the sub frequency cutoff anyway, so play it by ear and cut the doubled frequencies using the sub itself if it has  an adjustment for that.  Wiring the speaker level inputs seems redundant to me.
