aussievintage Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 (edited) Well, a few people came out of the woodwork on Herb Alpert. I wonder about this sub-genre. Another favourite instrumental music type for me. I have always loved the Hammond sound, particularly the B3. Heard in a lot of rock and some jazz as well (Jimmy Smith anyone?). There is a whole sub-genre, most famous examples are James Last's Hammond À GoGo series. Typical recordings feature 10 to 12 tracks of medleys, often grouped by rhythm style, played by Hammond organ and supported by real instruments. I assume the original intention was music for dancing. Playing one that isn't from James Last at the moment. This is Hammond in the Night - Nils Harding Edited November 10, 2020 by aussievintage

aussievintage Posted November 11, 2020 Author Posted November 11, 2020 I ran into a guy playing Blues on a Hammond at the Broadbeach Bluesfest one year. Those really old ones were heavy to move around. They used metal wheels, turned by electric motors, to generate the tones.
djmt Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 There's a reason they call him the Mighty Burner.

djmt Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 1 hour ago, Ian McP said: We were all a hellava lot younger back then. I think he's turned 80 and still touring. Had the same energy at the 2010 Blues Fest as he had at the Bayou in 1973. Imagine his last breath will be on stage somewhere.
