Great driver for flea powered tube amps. SETs would love it. It doesnt go super deep and would be better boxed. Sealed or ported. You will get much more out of it.

Any advice on option 2? (Poor man’s Kensington).

I have a Luxman l-30 (rebuilt by Doug).

Is this a candidate for an open baffle?

Yes.

... but like almost all other drivers, it will need substantial EQ to have a flat response.    There's nothing wrong with that (at all), it just means you need to design the EQ/correction.

With only 6mm linear travel, it will probably need a subwoofer.

Happy to give you box size and port dimensions.

That would be spectacular - ty!

As mentioned, I’d love to creat a poor man’s Kensington (albeit a 12” driver). https://www.classaaudio.com.au/floorstanding-speakers/615-tannoy-prestige-kensington-gr-floorstanding-speakers.html

I can get the crossover made, and I can get the box built (this is already organised) - just need to know what to get them to build!

Cheers for the repost ?

Yep, as has been said regarding open baffle, I was breaking these in propped up on the floor for over a month while waiting to build the cabinets and can attest to the lack of bass like that (I know.. not the same as OB).

It was once they were in a large porter cab and with some mass loading that I became really impressed by the bass performance. You could build much smaller than I did (I was going for a statement piece of furniture ;) ), as Mark will show you on his build.

Would love to see a Kensington style cabinet though!! I really do admire the appearance of the classic Tannoy range...

Seems to be a few people using these drivers in Tannoy cabs. If I can get Tannoy-ish I’ll be pretty happy.

True, I read one in a back loaded GRF style can where the guy eventually went to Onken. I wish I’d gone with the back and front loaded horn, closer to the Autograph (if you have the resources for that sort of cabinetry).
