torrentkid Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 (edited) I'm trying to set up a beginner 7.1 home theater. Not looking for anything fancy, just a decent sound system. I'll probably not need the AVR for video but it's good to have standby pass through & ARC. Is this a good deal? Edited November 8, 2020 by torrentkid Wrong model
torrentkid Posted November 8, 2020 Author Posted November 8, 2020 Anyone? Did I miss any information?

At first I read this, thinking you thought the 1020 has those features, but then realised you might be saying, it would be good because the 1020 doesn't have them, which is true. Without ARC, it just means you may have trouble getting audio from TV to speakers, if you wanted that. There are ways around it though. I currently don't have ARC because I haven't been able to get it working with my new AVR, and it's a bit annoying, but as logn as you can output other sources to AVR, it doesn't matter much. Looking at other units for sale, $150 seems about right for it's age and features. Edited November 8, 2020 by Esoterica 1

Guest Old Man Rubber Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 For the vast majority of audio duties your TV will be doing that would require ARC, you can achieve the same thing with an optical output on the TV if it has one. I don't think I have hooked up the audio output or even used the internal speakers of any TV I owned in the last 20 years, so unless you're absolutely stuck with your TV as a tuner it is IMHO an extra complication in the already frustrating HDMI experience. I keep everything as simple as possible and use an external tuner for the 30 minutes of FTA TV we watch every week (in our case, a Fetch Mini or a PS3 PlayTV is doing that work).
