KRSDarwin Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 (edited) A small but enjoyable GTG in Darwin on Saturday afternoon. There were 4 of us and we all came at it from a slightly different way. We had a diy guy, a record retailer and a Hi-Fi retailer and a simple amateur enthusiast. I was keen to see if anyone could hear the difference the new (SNA secondhand - excellent transaction with @Jake123) Musical Fidelity 550K Superchargers made to the MF M6si and Paradigm Studio 100s. We used Roon and then the Clearaudio Concept TT. Paul (can’t remember SNA tag) and Ryan ( @Air Raid Records ) had heard my system sans Superchargers and agreed the Superchargers noticeably improved the sound to being more effortless, adding soundstage and detail. Thanks fellas for supporting my bias! Brian was a new guest and is a handy guy as he bought along a 1970s Phillips mono tube amp he had restored (photo included). It was a great looking job, but we didn’t get to hear it play. He also bought along a working Phillips linear tracking TT he had restored. After trying the Superchargers with the solid state M6si (230wpc) we swapped to the Bewitch 30wpc tube amplifier, with the Superchargers. We all agreed the tube amp was more liquid and softer. Brian preferred the tube amp sound but the rest of us slightly favoured the greater detail in the M6si. Part of the day was Paul and Ryan bringing records they liked but which weren’t in minty condition. These we played and then ran them through the Kirmuss ultrasonic record cleaning machine. We were blown away, they were like totally different records and recordings. New sounds and more space and air. Unfortunately @Satanica and George couldn’t join us this time but I am sure there will be another. Some simple afternoon tea, the odd beer and nice brewed coffee amongst the great company of fellas who appreciate both high fidelity music as well as well quality functioning equipment made for a terrific afternoon.
