markc3012 Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 I currently have a 661 and want to upgrade. I am looking at 571, 671 & 767. Dont really need a network receiver, but I do need it for 7.1 Surround and HDMI from Bluray player>Receiver>TV. I suppose the 767 is best but also the most expensive. Anyone have any of these Recievers comments welcome.
Time_Lord Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 IF I recall correctly, the 661 similar to the 663 except it cannot do the decoding of the HD Audio formats? (IN which case your receiver is dependant on the player to do the decoding). Slightly off topic, but notice you use the Xarus range, do you find your Xarus centre speaker a bit too boomy depending on what you listen to? I have the 663, so I suppose the 767 wouldn't be too much different, except for more HDMI inputs, and I think the 767 is also HDMI 1.4. I believe it also has preouts to, so having that be a good option. Personally, if you do get the 767, pair it with a external power amp. As that is what I do with my 663. There is no way that unit (or mine for that matter) is going to output those watts for all channels at the same time.
markc3012 Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 Where does the 671 fit into all this?? Isnt the Yamaha progression 661>663>667>671 Why is the 671 a Network Receiver?? Am I right in saying that?? As far as the Xarus centre speaker goes I did adjust it down slightly with the individual channel settings. Apart from that I am Wharfedale fan.
fat Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 If you are looking to upgrade I am looking at off loading my RX-V3800 soon if you are interested
markc3012 Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 Is the 671 the model that has taken over from the 667??
-chippy- Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Is the 671 the model that has taken over from the 667?? yeah, thats what i'd say...afaik, the new 71 series is the replacement for the 67 series
Time_Lord Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Isnt the Yamaha progression 661>663>667>671 Actually no. 661>663, yes. But not the other ranges. If anyone in the retail outlets tell you otherwise, then they need to get their facts straight. I remember when the Yamaha 665 and the new rangers in that series was about to come out, and even though I was told it is the model that will replace the 663, it wasn't. It was actually the 765 that was the 663 replacement (just look at the ratings in the manual). And BTW the Yamaha 663 is the Yamaha 763 in the UK. So to follow the progression, it be 661>663>765>767, and going by the UK site, the 771 will be the next model up.
