houdinifangs Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Hi all, This clip looks like what I want to make. Anyone recognise the cabinet design?
Guest Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Hi Houdi Leon @ Soundlabs might have the cabinet design since he sells the Visaton drivers . CHeers

hasaudio Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Ohhh I know the guy who made this video. He is an audioenz member. He purchased some terminals from us for this project. Ill see if I can locate the thread for you.

Paul Spencer Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Is it a sealed or vented design? Those are dead easy.
houdinifangs Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 If you look at the end of the clip you can see that it's vented, but the vents are filtered with fiberglass. Nice to see a clip that isn't jazz/world music with female vocals (there is another of this speaker with this type of music as well). Thanks Has for the links. I can't see the pics - maybe I need to be a member?
hasaudio Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Well I cant see them anymore either and I am a member, so perhaps they were taken off the server. I know audioenz had a revamp, so perhaps thats when they got lost.
Paul Spencer Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I had a look at the clip (why make a video clip of something that isn't moving?!) and that would have to be an aperiodic box. In essence a sealed box that has a controlled leak - you get steeper roll-off and can get away with a smaller box. Perhaps this driver wants a big box - that's where an aperiodic makes sense. The vent area in this case is unusually large. There comes a point where it might start to act like a dipole. You can easily work out a sealed or vented design if you have the parameters. You would need to plug in the numbers for the driver to a sim program like WinISD. It would make more sense to do a floorstanding version sealed or vented - aperiodic is just a way to make a sealed box undersized and get away with it. There is no advantage except small size.
houdinifangs Posted July 10, 2011 Author Posted July 10, 2011 Well I've tracked down and been in contacted with the builder of this speaker. His system is really worth having a look at in detail. Here is a taste: He's goes into very generous detail here
planet10 Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Given the high Q of the B200, if you want a box that isn't an OB, the receipe is easy. Make as large a box as you can live with. Then make it aperiodic. dave
