I have just built a pair of speakers in time for my 52nd Birthday! The boxes (approx 18L) are constructed from 33mm thick MDF with a 10mm ply baffle. The drive units are 160mm SEAS CB17 RCY (Mg basket and rubber surround) and a Fountek Neo Ribbon tweeter. I have set up the xo network to make the best use of the SEAS mid (which is exceptional) The stone effect was created by stripping blue metal hammerite with a hot air gun. I wish I could say it was a deliberate action but it was discovered by accident. A coat of satin varnish finishes the look. The front baffles came up very quickly by rubbing in Wattyl Teak stain (twice) with steel wool.

They sound amazing with my 100W Hitachi MOSFET amp (Dave Goodman Maplin UK)

What is it about SEAS drivers, they are always great....

I hope you like my colour scheme.....

Good job, although I think you could achieve a more consistent look if you painted them. You could also hide the screws that way if the setup is now permanent.

Nothing like building something yourself.....always sounds that little bit better because you worked for it :)

Happy 52nd Birthday

I kinda like the industrial look

It does however need to blend in with the rest of the décor

Well done mate

Happy 52nd birthday. Love stories of home made speakers, but I'm interested to know why the baffle is only 10mm thick, usually the baffles are the thickest part of a speaker cabinet?

Thanks for sharing.
