Hi guys,

Just want to get a general consensus on some 300B tubes.

I've been looking at some TJ's / Sophias but am unsure of the improvements of those carbon plates vs mesh plates designs. Value for $ i guess would be the mesh plates.

Your opinions please..

It really pains me to say this as I love the TJ mesh plate globe. I've had a few issues with the reliability of the TJ mesh plate 300B and am now supplying Shuguang 300BS globe tubes with the TM300B. So far out of ~30 pair I haven't had a dud.

the mesh plates work really well in the TM, didn't like the carbon plates, they seemed a bit bright to me.

Cheers, Earle.

Hi Kat

I would go with KR ,EAT or even the EML's I haven't heard the EML but I would say their similar to the VIAC tubes .Build quality is in another league over the chinese tubes and with this come SQ . One day the Chinese might make a true Mesh plate .

The Shuguang tubes are good value compared the the TJ's if they sound the same or similar go the Shug's .

Cheers

Hi G

There a nice tube down on power over other 300B's ,I find them similar to a 2A3 sound wise but there well OVER PRICED I wouldn't be buying another .One thing you need to make sure the plate voltage's are spot on and biasing someone I know found this out .You should be able to get them just under 1k a pair .I still like my KR's one day when the dust settles on the build front I might get a pair to try .

saw those royal carbon princesses off the sophia site - yikes! 1200 for a matched pair.. bit rich for me atm.

but for that sort of moola, i'd be expecting somehting special from them.

Hi Oval,

Saw your reviews on the KR Baloons from 2008! They do sound like a nice well balanced tube. Seems hard to find though, as PartsConnexion dont seem to stock them anymore.

Email KR for price and supplier ,the ST & Balloon are the same performance wise but different glass envelope's price up to 1K a pair.

Hi Earle,

In your opinion, do you think the TJ Mesh plates or Carbon plates sound closer to the EH 300b gold pins? I have the EH tubes in my Time Machine atm. They sound well balanced (lows and mids) but the highs seem recessed IMO.

Not keen on the carbon TJ's in the TM. They sound thin with no body IMO.

Go for the Shuguang 300B in the pic above. IMO they everything the TJ's are.

You will loose a couple of watts output and also a little bass, the mids and highs are where you gain.

Cheers, Earle.
