danter Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Sold my 104ab speakers last year and have regretted it ever since. A hell of a speaker for the money. Regarded by many as better than the Concerto. Should be an easy sell.
Darryl Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I agree, great speakers for the money At this price you can buy them, try them out, and resell them on when you need / want to. It's like they're free!!! Good luck with the sale Rod. I'd buy them back but I already have too many pairs of speakers.
Luc Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Yep, same here, I'd buy these for my nephew in Melb if they were in Melb. Good luck with the sale.
4heckssake Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Geez, if it was last week i could have had them delivered to Melb as my Bro-in-law had to hire a car and drive to Melb cos of the ash cloud.
Guest The Fresh Prince Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Great speaker for the money. Reliable, honest seller also. If you don't like these, ask Rod about the Cabasses- valve friendly!
4heckssake Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Thanks Ted. Speaking of Cabasses...I visited Challenge today and listened to the new ones - nice!
Tony M Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 (edited) If I can resist Adrocks' Apogees, I can resist anything. But I do admit that I am wondering what the relationship is between the 104 ab and the 104 reference and thinking they seem very cheap at the current asking price. In 1981, I had to decide between the 104ab and the Yamaha NS100M in a new Yamaha system. I took the Yamaha's based as much on aesthetics as anything, but I was never totally convinced that I did the right thing. I recall liking the sound of the KEF's very much indeed. But I have to keep telling myself I have enough speakers. Should be looking for a decent DAC instead..... Anyway, if these don't sell soon at that asking price, I'll be truly amazed. Cheers Tony Edited June 28, 2011 by Tony M
Darryl Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Tony from memory the AB stood for Acoustic Butterworth or something like that. I believe the 104 and 104aB speakers are the same except for the crossover which sits behind the black plate on the front with the knobs on. I stand to be corrected though. Cheers, Darryl.
4heckssake Posted June 28, 2011 Author Posted June 28, 2011 I think you are correct Darryl. I was keeping an eye out for some 104ab crossovers on the bay but i never bought any. Tony, if you want to satisfy your curiousity I'm happy to 'store' them at your place for an extended period - I'm really just trying to free up some space in our small abode.

Tony M Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Y'know, if a pair of speakers knocked on my door on a cold, wet, windy night, I would never have the heart to turn them away - that's just the kinda guy I am. But, Rod, these classics should very quickly be adopted into a loving home where they can do what speakers are meant to do, day in day out. I think it would be sad for them to sit here in limbo wondering what their destiny is, even briefly. Thanks for the offer of a loan, but I suspect you can easily find room for them for the very short time it should take to find the right new owner. C'mon, surely someone out there wants a pair of classic Brit speakers at a bargain price? Cheers Tony PS I just tried the Rotel amps on the shed speakers and reluctantly concluded they soundly beat the little vintage amps I was using when you were here.
Guest Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 C'mon, surely someone out there wants a pair of classic Brit speakers at a bargain price? I do, though I don't even have a house to put them in right now. Bites lip, sweats profusely,...

Peter_F Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Sold my 104ab speakers last year and have regretted it ever since. A hell of a speaker for the money. Regarded by many as better than the Concerto. Should be an easy sell. What sort of amps drive the 104's to their optimum? They are tempting....... Cheers, flemo.
4heckssake Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 Ok, I just tripped over these in hallway. Why are they still here I am asked?? Maybe I advertised them to cheaply and thus you think they are no good...you can pay me way more for them if you like!
Guest Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Yep, ridiculous. I would, but my sense of self preservation is strong at the minute. Unfortunately they would be too large for Ems' dad, I think. Hmmm, will investigate that one. What are the dimensions 4H?
