HUMBUG89 Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 I have a Consonance PM2 phono stage which has worked quite well to recently, when I found that after first switching it on the sound stage is slighty and noticeibly to left side. By switching the MM/MC switch from one to another, ie from MC to MM, will cure? the problem, it will sound centred and sounding as it should.I have had the relays changed and the board has been 'resoldered', however the problem persists, I have left it on, not turning it of which seems to work, but as it has 2x 12 ax7's in the preamp this may not be viable, anybody got any ideas as to what could be causing the problem or any suggestions?. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.
cheekyboy Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Hi spike, just leave it on 24/7........I do with mine and wouldn't think of turning them off. Cheers, Keith
valvelover Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Swap the 12ax7 tubes over. Does the problem swap sides then? sounds like a biasing issue on one of the tubes. I'd suggest getting a new set, matched pair. Dave
HUMBUG89 Posted June 26, 2011 Author Posted June 26, 2011 Thanks for those comments, Cheeklyboy, Dr.goodvibe, yes have to agree leaving it on does work rather well, sounds alot better than I throught even though it always did sound good,it seems better. Valvelover,I have changed the valves, I have a number of 'sets' of NOS 12ax7s and new 12ax7s and it seems to make no differance, but I must admit I didn't swamp sides, so I will try that and will look at getting a matched pair although I'd assumed that the new pairs I have were?, but may insist on a matched pair when ordering some next.
