frankn Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Received a box from overseas yesterday. Anti-Cables by Paul Speltz I purchased speaker cables, IC for the CD-preamp and some jumper cables for the Paradigm 100v2 Ref speakers I was previously running bi-wired (in case I sell them or use them in non-bi wire mode). Different cables - solid copper, single strand - no multi core etc. Bugger all shielding. Will be interesting to see how they go. Pic below. You can get them direct http://www.anticables.com/products.html Regards Frank F
rantan Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Hi Frank. I have been curious about these cables for some time now and will be very interested in your thoughts and impressions. Cheers.
frankn Posted June 25, 2011 Author Posted June 25, 2011 You can always come over and hear them compared to the Tara Labs cables I'm currently running (see sig)
rantan Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Thanks for that Frank. I only just noticed you are a local..... facepalm. I may well take you up on that offer in the near future. Cheers.
metal beat Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Not sure they will be welcome around the phono stage with no shielding. Should be a lot of fun comparing with the Tara. Cables however take long term listening to be truely relevant. Have fun
jaspert Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 I have 2 pair of anti cables with Eichmann Bullet plugs for a few years now & used to have speaker cables too. Sold the later and just use some cheap Bunnings solid core copper cable instead. I had found in some situation with vinyl setup, hum/ noise could be an issue with the interconnect ( same with some braided Kimber i have) but this is largely system and gear dependent so should not be a problem in most cases.
warnsey1 Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Best speaker cables I've used in my system bar none. PIA to manage IMO, however if you can get past that, these outshone the top of the line Goertz Cables, Pure silver speaker cables and many many others.
LHC Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 I also have a pair of AC speaker cables. Has anyone try this tweak (from their website)? "Twisting the (+)&(-) wires together (3-4 full twists per foot) also works well as a free "tweak". As this will turn two separate wires into one twisted pair (easier to manage), and the lower inductance (see specs below) may provide additional top end extension."
frankn Posted June 25, 2011 Author Posted June 25, 2011 That's how I'll set them up tomorrow. Easy to untwist if it doesn't work. - how would you know? I also have a pair of AC speaker cables. frankn Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) installed said anti-cables (twisted) into system 24hrs ago. Lost smoothness on highs but might be more detail, bass is still there, more "attack/sharpness" on small drums, snare etc. Smoothing out a I type. I put the IC's in for the CD-pre-amp a few weeks back, simialr things happened but after a week of near contineous playback things seem to quieten down. After that, before the speaker cables were swapped I think the sound was very similar to my Tara Labs RSC Prime IC. The way my components are housed it is a PITA to change IC's. I'll leave the speaker cable in for most of the week, playing music as much as possible. Then I'm going to try swapping the IC's around a couple of times to see if I can really hear any difference. Then when I've settled on the IC I will continue with the speaker cable. I have an extra pair (4 cables, each 7ft length, spades either end) of anti-cable speaker cables if anyone wants to try them in their own system. PM me, Adelaide only, pick-up and drop back to me. I have a few questions for you luminaries on SNA: I have Tara Labs RSC Prime Bi-wire (single run) speaker cables - but the Quads are not bi-wireable so do you think it is plausible/reasonable to either: a) split the cables back to their individual cables (4 per run) and use as single strand speaker cables (get rid of the sheath etc) or simply solder the two +ve and -ve cables each to a single spade for the speaker termination - it is hard to get two thick spades to fit on one speaker terminal tightly Let me know Cheers Frank Edited July 9, 2011 by frankn clarity
frankn Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 (edited) Had a few ppl over to listen to the system on Sunday. Compared the Tara Lab Prime IC's with the AC IC's - in my system AC is better. My original feeling was that I wasn't losing anything using the AC over the TL's. Now I'm convinced I'm gaining detail. Didn't bother swapping the speaker cables - have continued with the AC (twisted). You can see some of the comments about my system in the SA GTG section - mostly about the speakers (and ribs)though. So, in conclusion - I'd recommend these cables to others to try. I haven't had a problem with noise/shielding issues at all. The tt power chord and signal wires run very close to the AC IC's - no problems. Given that AC cost $10/foot for speaker cable and interconnects are $100 (up to a metre)+$25 for each additional 0.5m, add $30 shipping they are reasonable. http://www.anticables.com/anti-ic.html Regards Frank Edited July 18, 2011 by frankn spelling duh
vmhf Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Some great feedback frankn. I recently ordered a pair of AC speaker cables from the Australian reseller, Krispy Kables. I purchased them out of curiosity really due some glowing reports from some friends. They are staggeringly good. I won't say they have replaced my Jorma Origo biwire speaker cables but these Anticables will outperform the majority of cables out there I have tried at all price points. I also have the biggest mess of power cords and cables behind my gear and I do not have any interference whatsoever with the AC intertwined amongst them. But I am still a firm believer that some cables work better than others depending on your amp and speakers. And AC are not immune to this fact.
frankn Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 Hi Vmhf, I agree with all you said. They are definitely worth a go in my opinion, and not too much if the purchaser doesn't think they are the best in their system. Regards Frank
vmhf Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I just find AC speaker cables let the music through uninhibited. Nothing added, nothing lost. Probably the first speaker cable I have used to do this. You don't pay for any fancy shielding or terminations for that matter. Just pure cable.
