Omegaspeedy Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Hi guys, I'm wanting to re-wire my tonearm but can't find anyone who sells good tomearm wire here in NZ. Does anyone in Australia sell Cardas or the likes, off the reel? Cheers James.
Jake Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I know Caxton Audio always sold Nordost off the reel, but not sure about Cardas. Worth a call/email.
jaspert Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Another to consider is 1877 wires. http://www.1877phono.com/tonearm_wire.html There's an Australian dealer who's a member here.
Aslan Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 guru on here does Cardas re-wires..............worth a PM.
Greener Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Hey there Jaspert..Interesting site using your link to 1877, I'd not heard of them but under their site's Distributor list there's no mention of an Aust Dealer-can you advise who that might be please mate? Thanks.
jaspert Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Hi Onions, http://www.goldenageaudio.com.au/For%20sale/1877phono.html
Omegaspeedy Posted June 22, 2011 Author Posted June 22, 2011 (edited) Thanks guys for the info, I wonder what the pricing is like on that 1877 tonearm cable. Do any of you guys have any personal recommendations with arm cable. The Cardas seems to be a great general purpose copper cable with I'd prefer over silver. I tried Audio Consulting silver cable and found it lacked bottom end energy, though it was very detailed. It wasn't to my personal liking. I'm wanting to put something better than Microsoft mouse cable in my new tonearm. Here's my TT project that is sounding mint!! It needs heaps more sanding. The Plinth skirt will be black and the remaining wood a dark cherry red, Shindo style. Edited June 22, 2011 by Omegaspeedy
Batty Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I have Cardas 33 in my RB250, sounds great to me, nice TT by the way.
NeilNZ Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 You could have asked me James... I had 3 metres of nice 33AWG cotton wrapped silver until this arvo but I gave it to a dude...

Cheers Neil, but after trying that Audio Consulting wire and not liking it, I was hoping to find some Copper based product and the most commonly available seems to be the Cardas.
Toisich-Jnr Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I've had my tonearm rewired with 1877. Very pleased with the results. Goldean Age Audio are good to deal with.

Guest guru Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Cardas-cable-4x-33awg-tonearm-wire-500mm-12-tonearms-/300560891663?pt=Turntable_Parts_Accessories&hash=item45fad33f0f morning meowgly, i have 5 rolls of cardas tonearm rewire cable and it looks nothing like that. it looks rather stiff and springy so it would be difficult to draw through the tonearm especially in that plaited configuration. regards,g.
meowgly Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 The stuff I bought was pretty easy to get through the tonearm (rb 250). I likeed it because it had good insulation and relatively thick wire (easy to solder, and durable) BTW, It's braided in pairs. Anyway, sounds fine to me, and did not impinge on tonearm movement. This Cardas stuff is hideously overpriced. It's just wire! How much (price) and how long is a roll? Purrrrrr

Omegaspeedy Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 guru, if you sold me a metre, how could I pay you here from NZ? Do you have a Credit card facility? Cheers James.
Once Analog Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 This Cardas stuff is hideously overpriced. It's just wire! And, I thought I had heard it all! Vince
