disconnecting speakers in Power Amp

If one channel shorts with the other will doing so big issues can happen (release of magic smoke), and if it it a valve power amp with a signal passing at the time it can risk the output transformers as you have no loading on the output.

 

I see no reason to remove speaker cables without powering down first.
