Further information:

"Detailing is rich, and the timing is more than capable. The Gyrodec SE proves adept at cohesion, pulling the instruments together neatly, creating the sense of a turntable that's truly in control. The Gyrodec gives lovely evenness in its soundscape, with no fighting between the treble, midrange and bass. With treble-heavy songs such as The Beatles' What You're Doing, there's no hint of stridency. Indeed, sonically, the Gyrodec SE is right up there with the best."

This is one for all of you looking for a total solution. Yep its got everything you need to setup and start playing with a first class vinyl front end.

And for the price I'm asking you basically getting the turntable for free... have a look at the end of this as and you'll see what it all cost.

Well I never thought I would see the day, but here it is, a grey, cold and wet one (in Melbourne). Fitting really as I'm not happy to be selling my pride and joy. This Gyrodec is probably the one item I've had the longest... in fact I cant remember when I bought the turntable. But that speaks to the superb engineering and rightness of the design. Its barely changed since its release, and you'll find this one is up to the latest spec with the Inverted oil circulating main bearing, and the 2 piece towers and springs using a ball bearing.

What you are looking at is an absolute bargain of top notch vinyl replay. Everything with this turntable adds up to $11439 - have a look at the bottom of the ad and all the items are listed with their price.

More importantly I've upgraded carefully so that I have kept the soul and beauty of this absolute design classic, while maximising the sound by upgrading carefully to get the best out of this turntable. I've avoided the trap that many have fallen into going overboard upgrading their Gyro SE into a Frankenstein. Thats right, I've avoided getting the Orbe platter... there's chatter online that you lose the inherently right and coherent sound of the Gyrodec. Its not really an Orbe if you get the Orbe platter - the Orbe has a different Acrylic spider etc so you're not getting all of the structural rigidity and benefits of the massive platter. I've also been advised by a friend in the industry not to upgrade my Gyrodec with the Orbe platter - he said sprung designs aren't great with really heavy platters...

I've also avoided getting the Gert Pederson upgrades, as while it does improve the sound you really do compromise on the wonderful design of the turntable - personally I dont like the way it looks after applying the Pederson mods and theyre irreversible ie you have to drill holes into the metal base!

But what I have done is kept the beauty of the turntable with my carefully applied upgrades.

Firstly the table comes Michell's brilliant Technoarm. This allows you to put cartridges on this table that cost as much or more than the turntable and get the best out of them. The arm competes with arms 2 to 3 times the price. Its been modified by Michell from the original Rega arm - its more rigid, has less mass, and the underside of the integral head shell is machined to be perfectly parallel with the bearing position. The tonearm is then assembled using ultra-low friction polymer bearings and mounted on a redesigned mounting base. The arm is wired with a proprietary wiring loom and 99.9999% pure silver litz wire, from cartridge tags to phono plugs, with no internal wiring joints. One great thing about this arm which you will immediately appreciate is that it doesn't use the silly 3-point mounting arrangement that Rega has on their arms - this arm has a collar that you can loosen and adjust the height/VTA of the arm without tools or having to remove the arm to put spacers in.

Secondly I've added the Michell HR Power Supply. This is basically an upgrade that every Gyrodec owner should do straight away. Improves pace, speed consistency... its well reported online of how substantial the upgrade is.

Next I grabbed the Orbe clamp kit. I really never liked the original clamp which required me to push down on the turntable to apply enough pressure to do anything beneficial, and in the process I would have my turntable bouncing up and down waiting for it to settle. And half the time it would jam or wouldn't grip the spindle, and its really hard to tighten and loosen... its just a pain. The Orbe clamp kist in contrast is a beautifully simple and effective design that requires very little effort for maximum effect and it really helps flatten out any warps. This should be standard on all turntables! The kit requires that you remove the original spindle and replace it with the Orbe spindle which has a screw thread on it that the replacement clamp screws onto.

Then I upgraded the armboard with the Gert Pederson Gyro armboard upgrade. The purpose of this armboard upgrade is to prevent cartridge and arm resonances from reaching the chassis, reducing the feedback to the cartridge. The vibrations are stopped by three different layers and the isolated screws before the chassis is reached, improving sound-rendering and resolution. This is a much more substantial and thought out design over the Michell upgrade for the same purpose. This upgrade really cleans up the sound.

Then I added the double pulley which comes from Italy. Its amazing how much of an improvement such a small item can deliver. This little upgrade which allows you to use two  rubber belts improved PRAT, bass and the general drive and energy of the turntable. I liked it so much that it never came off - you can see it in the pictures. Unfortunately it stops you playing 45's, but I never found that to be a problem. (I have put the original pulley back on, but the double pull is easy to put on with just the use of an allen key).

And finally I replaced the springs about a year ago, so you are ready to go - these need to be replaced eventually as they go out of spec. The suspension towers bring this turntable absolutely up to spec. These 2 piece towers and springs use a ball bearing to de-couple the platter from the base via a single point contact.

But wait there's more!!!

I've included a fresh bottle of bearing oil, so you're ready to go when you setup.

A Rega Apheta 2 moving coil cartridge is included. Yes for the eagle eyed of you it looks like an Apheta 1, but it has the innards of the Apheta 2. I purchased this from Carlton Audio Visual, and basically what happened is the Rega distributor had a bad batch of Apheta 1's, and they were rebuilt by Rega as Apheta 2's. The cartridge has had less than 50 hours on it, probably closer to 20 hours, so practically new. Have a look at the photos and you can see the diamond in the cantilever. Its a thing of beauty! By the way I'm happy to remove the Apheta and sell the Gyro without if you already have a worthy cartridge, and we can work out a cheaper price. Frankly I'm in 2 minds about selling the cartridge, so hurry before I change my mind if you want it.

Oh by the way - I had an acrylic cover custom made to keep my pride and joy covered and dust free when I wasn't using it. Its free and included in the sale. I'll include it in the sale if anyone needs the turntable couriered, but I'll have to make up a double box and ensure its packed securely enough to arrive in one piece, but I won't provide any guarantee it will arrive in one piece as I never had a box for it in the first place. Anyone who has purchased from me knows my packing and boxes are over the top to ensure safe transit.

So whats the downside of this veritable bargain?!

Well we are in lockdown, so you cant pick up, unless you are within 5kms of Williamstown and you are on the way to the doctor/supermarket, and you can drop by and pick it up... but yes I will courier, as I have the original box for the turntable, and I can pack the cover. We can work out the logistics and cost.

And lastly, the little gold Gyro plaque came off years ago... yes I know, when something like that happens re-attach it straight away, otherwise that place you put it so it doesn't get lost and you dont forget where it is... yep i forgot. Frankly I think the turntable looks better without the badge ;) If you're really hung up on it you can get another one from Michell.
