Help - Turntable Hum at high volume

Hi.

I was hoping someone in this forum could assist me with my issue. When I play a record and turn the volume up (albeit probably too loud but that's me) I get a loud hum similar to an earthing hum from the speakers. I don't get this when it's at lower volume, or when I play something through spotify over wifi. My kit is as follows:

- Yamaha R-N303D receiver;

- Pro-Ject Primary E Phone; with

- Re-furbished Sansui SP-50 speakers running a new 3-way Dayton Audio drivers.

My initial thought is the pre-amp in the turntable is not enough to handle high volumes, as i said before, wifi music works beautifully. I'd like to exhaust any possibile cause before potentially purchasing either a new receiver with a built-in phono stage, or an independant pre-amp.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like something your cartridge/arm us picking up.

It will be there at low volumes but your just not noticing it.

Probably not an earth issue but more likely a hum picked up from a motor or power supply.

Try moving the TT relative to such hum emitters.

Try it without the needle on a record and move the arm.

Does the hum alter?

I'd say Acoustic Feedback.

The TT is picking up the 'music' from the speakers.

Less volume or move the TT away from the speaker/s.

Might be but feedback is more a howl than a hum and it really takes off in a big way.

"Loud hum" when he turns it up tho.

OP  has both our suggestions to try at least.

I had a similar scenario when my amp was plugged into a different circuit to my cd player, had a dedicated circuit run from the fuse box to my amp, is your system powered from the same power point? Good luck my friend ?
