Vero 4+ vs Oppo 105D.    I have both units and they are both connected to my LG OLED CX via HDMI.

I acquired a 720p American TV show the other day and put episodes 1-3 onto a USB stick.   I plugged it into the Oppo.     The image was okay but at times it was juddery during movement scenes.

Next day I put the stick into the Vero to watch episode 2 of the same show and it was a real Wow moment.    The image was amazing and the judder was completely gone.     I played episode 1 through the Vero and it was perfect.     On the Vero you can check the video meta data and it was showing it was a true 720p version running at 23.98 fps.

I checked again on the Oppo and it was running the show at 24 fps.

Any thoughts on why the difference or is it just the newer tech in the Vero 4+ that is now superior to the older 105D?

Pretty much all film based content is 23.98 and not 24 frames per second so running at 24 will result in the odd frame repeat which will appear as an off-putting glitch\twitch.

Regarding this Vero vs the Oppo was either one upscaling and if so to what resolution? Upscaling is processor intensive and unless they were outputting at identical resolutions then that could account for one being smooth and the other choppy. If they were outputting the same resolution then one could assume the Vero is faster at processing and\or upscaling for whatever reason.

Just be aware that the brilliant Gaia software addon apparently won't work with V19.   Gaia still working well with Kodi 18.9 on my Vero4+

If you are wanting V19 then The Oath addon seems to be flavor of the month.

I used Kodi since it was XBMC on the original Xbox. Have switched to Plex in recent years as I use 3 AppleTVs in the house and it's just easier for me to run and maintain a single Plex server library.

Might install Kodi on my PC and have play, just to see where it's at these days. Was always keen to try the built in emulator / game support.

Time for a Kodi update folks........

The latest Kodi build 19.1 Matrix came out in May.   Up until now I have been using Kodi 18.9 with the Gaia addon for TV shows and movies (with VPN) for the past few years.    Can't remember ever having an issue with it.     Sadly the Gaia builders are no-longer updating their product and it is not compatible with Ver 19.

I use Real-Debrid and Premiumize to get quality scrapes.     Gaia has been abit slow of late and the number of scrapers has dropped off so I searched the Net to see what is currently considered the best Addon for Kodi 19.

I went with 'The Oath'.   Plenty of How to install vids on Youtube.    I find the website Troypoint very helpful with their tutorials.

https://troypoint.com/

https://troypoint.com/oath-kodi-addon/

I gave The Oath a try with Kodi 18.9 and it worked a treat.  Far better than Gaia.

I'm still using the OSMC Vero 4+ hardware with the Linux OS.      I couldn't get the OSMC to manually update from Kodi 18.9 to 19 so had to go the long way around and enter some commands on the Command Line.    Instructions online are straight forward.

Once 19.1 was installed on Vero 4+ I did a fresh install of The Oath add-on which went without incident.    With Real-Debrid, Premiumize and Trakt login codes activated it was time to give it a test run.

Real-Debrid and Premiumize both run Cached Torrents which is brilliant.   Much quicker speeds and streaming with CT.

4K streams for TV and Movies were working a treat.   Couldn't be happier.

If anyone is keen to give Kodi a try but you are abit gun shy, then drop me a PM and I will see what I can do to help out.    There is abit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it you will be flying.

Hey Cazzesman!

I too have used Kodi since the days it was on the original Xbox. Still have the Xbox which I got “modded” at Caribbean gardens (here in Melbourne) back in the day. It’s till rockin! Not Caribbean gardens unfortunately 😁

I have never used a paid subscription for it and have been curious now to trial it out.

I used oath over the weekend as my son and I have started watching some classic movies and went down the Madmax path last weekend.

Nice and smooth, clear sound and audio. Hard to find stuff that is not on your standard Netflix sometimes.

My 13 year old son was given a raspberry pi recently and he was doing the addons for his PI.

So, agreed it is easy to get up and running and plenty of instructions online to get someone up and running.

It will be easier for someone with a PC attached as well to their media.

Highly recommend the PI path, I have one dedicated for my amp and the other for my TV.

Cheers

Keith

Hi Special K,

Great to hear your son on the path.   Kids these day are so it savvy this will be a walk in the park.

Using Real-Debrid and Premiumize is fine.   I have been using them both for 3 years.  Never any issues.    I normally get the 6 or 12 month subscriptions and use paypal.   Premiumize is about $11 per month and Real-Debrid is just $26 for 180days.    So for about $16 per month I get pretty much get the World of TV 🙂

Without using either, Kodi can be real hit and miss.   Now the 2 debrids have Cached Torrents, it is brilliant.

The cost is very reasonable when you consider what it would cost per month to have all the current streaming services to get all the shows you want.      It is not as instantly user friendly as Netflix, Disney and Prime but it is quickly getting there.   My wife has no problems using it and finding the shows/movies she wants.

Get you son to check out the  http://ezzer-mac.com/repo

https://troypoint.com/stop-kodi-buffering/

Within the Repo pack you will find setting for Advanced Setting XML.    This will use a Wizard program to set up your Pi hardware to run efficiently to help eliminate any 'buffering' issues.

There is now an AFL addon

https://aussieaddons.com/addons/afl/

You will still need an Telstra subscription to access, but it also works a treat.

Happy viewing.

I use a couple of Kodi loaded TV boxes to stream my videos on my network as well as to watch catch up TV.

One is an H96 x2 the other is an X96 x3. Both perform very well.

I have loaded Coreelec 9.2.7 on both. Makes them a lot more refined for me as is very stable on my boxes.

Thanks Cazzesman for the recommendations. Will have a look at the add ons and the subscription when I get to redoing mine, as it seems it is time for an update now.

Can I ask if you do use a VPN for this as well?

Thank you
