Hi all

Just interested in how many of you, present and past owners of Consonance products are out there?

Curious to hear what speakers, amps and preamps you have paired with your Consonance gear, particularly the Consonance Cyber range of valve amplifiers.

I've got a feeling there's quite a few of us out there, happy Consonance Cyber owners, so if you are reading this post, please drop us a line or a picture and share your experience in this thread.

I look forward to  reading all your comments.

Cheers

Speakers I have paired with Consonance valve amplification:

Sonique 4.5 SE

Ambience 1800 Reference

Aurum Cantus Volla

The Ambience and the Aurum Cantus loved the valves.

Interesting mix of speakers you've got there @Pigpen, I've listen to Ambience 1600 Reference before but that was mainly through a variety of high powered/high current solid state amplifiers. The results were eye opening for me as I was unfamiliar with the capabilities of such speakers.

Now the Aurum Cantus do look very intriguing, I would not mind checking them out at some stage.

Cyber 845s mono amps - wonderful value for money

My first Consonance amplifier was the Cyber 100 15th Anniversary with the glorious KT150 valves.

I must admit I didn't realise how good the amp was until I sold it and later tried other valve amplifiers of different brands, such as Cayin and Primaluna, the former being the least impressive in my experience.

The Cyber 100 with KT150 had an amazing synergy with my Yamaha NS-1000 Ebony speakers.

Some pics below to illustrate my post.

Some years ago now, I ran Cyber 800 monos with a pair of Usher DMD2. I found the Cybers unflappable, fantastic with classic and blues rock.

Bass response was better on the 4ohm tap but the real midrange magic happened on the 8ohm tap.

Bought the Cybers locally from the original owner. He gave me 2 pairs of nos Siemens ECC88 but I found those a bit fatiguing and rolled in Matsushita 6922. Ahh, bliss.

I'd like a bit more than the 50w I have at the mo', if $4k falls into my lap some time, it would be hard to go past the new 800mk2 monoblocks or 880 power amp. Extreme value for money in Oz!

I couldn't agree more. Incredible value and all thanks to Greg Osborn, don't know how he can manage to have such a great price in comparison to what the Consonance gear get sold in Europe.

This fellow on YouTube also posts some cool stuff playing through his Cyber 100 and his DIY speakers, worth a look.

Really interesting that you have paired Aurum Cantus with consonance. In the 10+ years I've had my system it's the first I've heard with the same speaker/amp pairing I have!

Mine is Cyber 845 with Reference 50 pre, going into my Aurum Cantus Harmony 3.5 way floor standers. Great combo, very versatile across a range of music tho perhaps on very bassy tracks at high volume some soft distortion (in typical valve style) can be heard. The speakers can handle 350W and the amps date 26W so not surprising. Overall great, tho I wonder how the Cyber 800 would go, or done of consonance's other new relatively high powered valve gear.

Which consonance amp(s) are you running into the Volla speakers?

What sources are you running?

Oh, I forgot my cousin has Aurum Cantus Moon Goddess MK2 driven by consonance reference 880 integrated, so your combo is actually the second I have heard... Haha

I have the 845 (not the "s" version) with reference 50 pre amp. I heard the Reference 1.1 or 1.3 preamps are a better match, just at the time over 10yrs ago that's what my budget allowed. Sounds great but I wonder how much more the 845 monos can give...

And what speakers out of interest?

My system (after many other tweaks) remains a  mostly Greg Osborn based system.

Auralic Aries Femto streamer via Neotech cable into an Audio Aero Capitole cd/sacd/dac/pre via XLO Signature interconnects  into Consonance 845s mono blocks  via Osborn Datalink Speaker Cables into Osborn Eclipse Tower Reference speakers.

Depending on where I live I also use his Silverlink RCA cables to connect pre to amps as well as interchanging speaker cables with XLO Signature 1.

I have been told that / and I do read that pre-amps make the sound better, but when I need to spend in excess of $4K for the recommended pre for my amps I just do the three monkeys - hear no evil, see no evil and say no evil :).

The Cyber 845s were way too laid back and plodding for my tastes.Although I guess a lot of SETs can sound like that. Not the really good ones though.I was really surprised how slow and bloated they sounded because I have heard some of the consonance push pull amps which sounded quite good.

Have had a M100 Plus for a few years now (sadly sidelined while I investigate a puff of smoke after an output tube failed :( )

Paired it with QAcoustics Concept 20s and PSB sub (very nice combo) and for the last year the Osborn Eos Reference.

Have always wondered how they'd compare to the Primaluna. Not sure that would be an upgrade.

If I upgraded to another tube amp I'd go for the Cyber 880i

Was running Cyber 800 blocks but they have now gone to a loving home - the Vollas have been in storage since 2012 or there about.

Sources were Denon / Pioneer / OPPO (I think) and a Project 6.1 RPM with EEI MCP 555 cartridge via a consonance 222 pre amplifier.

Consonance Opera ref 8 owner here. Nice to hear so many happy cyber owners out there!

It's a nice piece of kit which has tangibly lifted my streaming experience and doubles as a DAC. Seems to handle 2nd unfold of MQA up to 48khz.

Paired with ancient Osborn eclipse speakers via 40pc EL34 valve. Silverlink interconnects & Datalink cables.

Very happy with the setup.

I've tried a Primaluna Prologue Premium after I had the Cyber 100 15th and I was very disappointed with not only its sound but also the fit and finish, the previous generation of the Cayin amps were much better IMO.

I think this would be your best bet, particularly if using KT150 valves.

Wish that I knew then what I know now when this beauty came up for sale a few years back

Stunning in stealth black finish.

Cracking price too and what seems to be a hint of Seller's regret from the original owner

Hey mate it's David who you bought the amp from, do you still have it for sale?

I have several Consonance bits of gear, all have proven to be exceptionally good gear for their cost. My favourite Consonance component is their Droplet CDP which is a stunning CDP and very good DAC.

I happen to be the lucky new custodian of such well cared and well travelled ? pair of monoblocks.

These have had an easy life and are in pristine condition, a credit to its previous owner @Pigpen.

I'm pretty chuffed to have scored them.

They've been pushing my 15" Berkeley drivers with incredibly gutsy control and sheer musicality.

I feel these really fly under the radar of most people, perhaps because they're not the latest flavour of the month, which is great as they are amazing VFM.

I don't have a pic, but some years back I had a Consonance CD120 Linear CD player. It was very highly regarded at the time as a very good value performer. Apparently a few people on forums had issues with the tray mechanism, but I never experienced it. Overall, a very good player which I only moved on when I concentrated on streaming.

G'day markm1111 - not surprised to hear that.  The Consonance 2.2 CD player over on the right is a very good.  It doesn't get a lot of time these days with Tidal and a large library on HD, plus good old ABC Classic online.  But it is a bit of a jewel when it does get a go.  All their gear sounds great to my ears.  Only slight downer is the little black Consonance Suzanne DAP over on the far right.  It sounds grea,t as I expected - but won't link up with my mac formatted stuff to check how it would sound vs the Macbook Pro playing off the HD.  One for the due diligence file that one .... but like I said nothing wrong with the sound.
