After my 2012 12Core similar performance circa 2020 was $10k MacPro or dead-end iMacPro neither of which suited me. It was a big move for me I'd be Power Mac owner and fan since my first AGP G4 17" studio display and Sony D8 got me hooked on the firewire NLE editing revolution 20yrs ago. But YES, a lost day here and there when it's update time lol Very nice set-up. I'd still dual boot, too, if Apple kept support for Nvidia. Instead of fanatically - as in, really going out of their way - blocking the 3rd party drivers Nvidia created. With children who want to be the next Ninja/Lachy et al, NVidia's NVENC is a much better option for live streaming at high fidelity with minimal bandwidth. Even if AMD have 'better' silicon (definitely on a better node). So: Stay on 2017's - Mac OS 10.13.6 for dual boot with Nvidia... and not be able to upgrade beyond 2016's "Pascal" Nvidia line, maxing out at 11 t/flops. at 250 Watts and about AUD $2000 for a Titan XP. Or: Have dedicated PC's for games/streaming with newer Nvidia NVENC architecture(s) and Macs for all the admin/SOE stuff. To whit: Nvidia 3060ti - 16 tflops - sub 200 Watt card. WIth a bit of CPU/GPU undervolting - Have 1080p/240fps/5Ghz gaming rig pulling less than... 50 watts at the wall. Tucked away on a shelf: Where's Wally? This combo - NUC 9/3060ti - is equally compact to the Mac Studio. Outside of highly optimised Apple silicon apps - it kicks its butt. 11Parsecs
For user "Graceman". I don't support anything outside of Apple 'official' updates. Too many - labour intensive - variables. Have to admire the chutzpah, and... commendable if you can wangle other ways to squeeze life beyond their officially supported OS lifespan. Here's a group full of friendly and knowledgeable people for your requirement: OCLP Support.

Two hints: 1) You can update only when you revert the root patches. 2) After Updating OS you have to boot in Safe Mode (I.e. press Shift while you select the boot drive), then install the root patches. Works nice and smooth! "
