thrash099 Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 (edited) Hey everyone was wondering if anybody had experience with these speakers - have been curious about them and am considering tracking down a pair. My taste in music is varied from blues to metal and everything in between. So I’m curious to hear others thoughts. Matt. Edited October 24, 2021 by thrash099
rossb Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 I owned a pair about 20 years ago and loved them. With a classic Naim or Exposure amp these are great speakers, very musically engaging. They are standmount speakers, so are best in a small room, and won't produce a huge amount of bass, and the bass they do produce is quite flabby. But any pair you buy now will be very old, and possibly past their prime. I doubt there are too many in good condition still around. And speaker design has moved on. If you can find a pair cheaply to try, it would be worth the experiment. But more modern British speakers by Graham, Neat, Harbeth etc are a lot better.
thrash099 Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 Food for thought - Ive heard some say they are more suited to jazz, vocal etc and not to music overly produced. A good point that they would possibly be past their prime. But yeah if I found a decent pair at the right price they would be interesting to listen to.
rantan Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 @thrash099 They can sound good in some systems and with certain types of music as you have mentioned but I doubt they will suit your purpose. I am a big blues/ blues rock fan myself and the Epos are somewhat dry and technical and they wouldn't do justice to those genres. I guess it comes down to what amplifier and source you have and your approximate budget but there really are some great, affordable speakers out there.
thrash099 Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 (edited) Current setup : Redgum sonofagum amp / sl1200 with a denon dl-110 into a Vincent pho - 8 pre amp and currently have Acoustic Energy AE109’s. Nothing wrong with the 109’s mind you they are great speakers but as with this hobby you always want to try different things. Edited October 27, 2021 by thrash099
