Bisguittin Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Has anyone on the forum had the opportunity to swap over the opamp (OPA2134PA) of a Matrix M-Stage HPA-1 Headphone Amplifier to a Burson Audio SS V5? Did this prove to be a worthwhile exercise, and if so, where would be the best place to source such an item? Massdrop (now Drop(?)) HD6xx are my current weapons of choice. Thanks for any perspectives you might have. Best wishes Leon.
Formula409 Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 I did a couple of years ago. I think I may have posted about it, but cannot recall. In short I recall the noisefloor being lower and it generally having smoother and more detailed sound. Dare I say more warm and much more enjoyable to listen to. At the time I certainly couldn't got back to the stock OP amps. Headphones were AKG Q701. I still have the M-Stage with the SS V5s installed in a drawer unused (I now use a Marantz HD-DAC1). I might consider selling the OP amps separately if you were interested - I know I've got the original ones around in a drawer somewhere.
Bisguittin Posted February 12, 2020 Author Posted February 12, 2020 Wow. Just happened to tune in. Thanks for your comment/feedback. Just yesterday installed a Burson V5i dual core and it's chalk and cheese. The bass particularly is languid, luscious and highly highly convincing. Does not suffer inferior performamce anywhere else that I can sense. 1
