Hi,

I have a 10" custom sub enclosure I built for my old Golf GTI and haven't found a buyer for it. I've decided to try it as a sub connected to my speaker system in my study as it currently lacks a sub.

Built thread with details here for the sub - I acknowledge it's not aesthetically nice for an office but it will be behind other equipment anyway:

My Golf Mk7 Sub build log

I have it fitted with a full depth 10" sub - Image Dynamics IDQ10, and the amp is a 2CH Mosconi.

What I am seeking is advice on a power supply to operate the amp. I've not seen any monoblock or bridgeable 2ch amps cheap so I decided I'd use the mosconi and source a power supply.

I've seen DIY efforts using a computer PSU however I'd not preference that due to the need to start it on use (not sure if the action of the momentary switch can be mimicked by using the 12V trigger on my AVR).

Would a decent power brick be ok?

I have an old laptop supply...

I need to get my head around the current capability the power supply needs. I would think the amp has capacitive storage to manage transients but that still leaves me with a ? of how beefy it needs to be :)

Just canvassing for options from those that have given this a bash :)

If you have a meter that will read amps, put it insupply line to amp when sub is operating at your usual level to find out Amps drawn from battery Find an external AC to DC  Nominal 12V output (actually 13.8v usually) of the samm e or greater amp rating. These are sometimes sold as laboratory power supplies or for running mobile ham radio equipment as a home base station.

If you know the power rating of the amp it is even easier. Just remember 120W out put = 10Amp DC power supply roughly, 240W = 20A  12W = 1 Amp etc HTH BTW computer power supplies are probably cheapest and easiest to find source of 12V DC. You may need a bit of filtering to cut switching noise, but maybe not for subwoofer.
