Peter-E Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 not that I have a huge library atm but I'm planning on it and it's best to start populating catalogs early. So what are people using?

aussievintage Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 I started years ago with simple databases like dBase, and used various SQL databases over the years. These days I find a simple phone database called Memento does all I need. 1
Shelter Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 I use my own designed MS Access database. Its reasonably good. I first created it before discogs was thought of ~ have tuned it since. Programming practice ! I use discogs as well, for selling. Following up an automated transfer of data to discogs would still create hrs and hrs of work!

I currently just record the record title/artist, but not catalog number, and I know of no way to get that into discogs. I am NOT typing out 4000 database entries again So I stay with a local database. As I said, I use Memento at the moment. Happy to use any database that can export it's data, as csv or xml, or sql dump, to ensure I can take my data with me to any new program I want to try. Sometimes it's handy just to be able to spit the data (or a subset) out into a simple spreadsheet. 1

JPete9 Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Yeah lets you do things like barcode scanning for scanning modern LPs right into your DB...but great for checking what editions you have when you at shops etc. 1
eostre23 Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Or, see if you can pick up a legacy version of CaTraxx

Oh really, tediously cataloguing my collection at the moment, just found the scanning, you’re a legend, thanks.

smav Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Since seeing this thread and downloading the app last week, have started cataloging my albums - so far, no more than 30% would have barcode! Going slower than I originally thought.

Hydrology Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 You could type in the matrix/runout number (a bit like a book ISBN number that should speed up the adding process for those with no barcode.
