The Spider Posted December 26, 2019 Posted December 26, 2019 Item: Rega Brio R (previous edition) intergrated amp Location: malvern Vic Price: $500 Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: Purchased on SNA for mum, (only driven gently on Sundays with church music) but mum wants a headphone jack - so I just replaced it with a NAD T753 (overkill!) Note: The amp has a great history within our community, she has been traded on SNA by her original owner and I'm her 3rd owner, everyone keeps upgrading within a few months!!! so she's been very well looked after...only issue is she has been used for John Farnham but I did a sound check and she still is able to reproduce decent music too Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I'll gladly trade 9with cash) for the latest model which does have a jack as the performance of it was so good! (in case someone doesn't like the curvy style of their latest Brio???) Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved. 1
Berkel Posted December 26, 2019 Posted December 26, 2019 G'day Spider, I'm pleased to hear that your Mum's Rega has been used for church music, as I listen to a lot of pipe organ music, so it won't be polluted with garbage music, apart from the previous owners ! LOL. All jocularity aside, how does it cope with bass ? Also, can it take banana plugs + bare wire ( the latter for my REL subbie ) simultaneously ? I'm currently using a Rotel 971 Mk.II which is very good, but want to upgrade to something better, without spending too much ( we aged pensioners have to watch the $s ). Cheers, Dennis

Hi Berkel, I have had this amp since 2013 and it is an absolute sound marvel. I absolutely love it's sound and I haven't felt any need to upgrade and if I do it will be the next Rega up the chain to get the same sound. I am not sure what you are trying to achieve, but I sort of have an idea. The speaker terminals take banana plugs. I do not use banana plugs, I prefer bare wire, but this is just a standard terminal. Meaning that from the rear of the unit (towards the front) on the speaker terminal you can plug your banana plugs, then at 90 degrees in the terminal there is a little whole through which you insert the bare cable and then secure by screwing the terminal ends (red/black colour). I don't know what speakers you are running, but I imagine that if you are connecting a pair of speakers with X load to the amp, plus some bare wire for a subwoofer, then I guess that the load will increase and I don't know what the outcome would be, but it doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I wouldn't. Wouldn't you be better off using the "record output" line RCA to connect that sort of external device? Obviously this is not a power output. I found some online photos below. Cheers. 1
Audionerd Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 REL subs are designed to receive a high level signal from the output of a power amp if possible. Although they will work with a low level signal from a pre out as well, REL maintain that having the same power amp that drives the main speakers also driving the sub will produce more sonic coherency. If no-one wants to buy the lovely little Brio outright, I'd be quite happy to trade it for an amp with headphone socket. Several to choose from.
Berkel Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 Thanks for the prompt reply. You've answered my question. The Brio R seems to have a good reputation and I think it would suit my purposes. Would you be interested in doing a trade plus some cash ? I have a NAD C326BEE integrated amp with a headphone socket, which I have advertised for sale here and on another site. I'm asking $295 ( with a little negotiability ). It's in near mint condition with original box, papers,& remote. Sounds very nice, but NQR ( not quite right ) for my purposes. Regards, Dennis
