Hi guys,

Here's my setup:

Was wondering do i need higher speaker stands for the surrounds since the general consensus seems to be mounting it above ear level?

https://www.dolby.com/us/en/guide/surround-sound-speaker-setup/5-1-setup.html

I know they should be closer to where I'm sitting but practicality and aesthetics wise, I prefer them all the way back. Plus I can use Dirac (AV is NAD T758 V3) to compensate for the distance I have them. Question is will the height improve the surround sound further?

Also, what should be the best way to angle the surrounds in my room? toenail/angle them or what I'm already positioning them now? (Following the alternate placement guide here: http://www.audiogurus.com/learn/speakers/speaker-placement/100 )

Thanks!

Perhaps. I'd ask 3 things. And I'd say the convention is tweeter at ear level (and measuring position) rather than above.

When sitting in your normal movie position on the sofa (ie reclined) is there a direct path from the tweeter in the surrounds to your ear?

When measuring for Dirac, is there the same direct path from surround tweeter to the mic?

Do you have a good mic stand that lets you place the mic exactly where you sit?

In any case it would cost you nothing to raise the rear stands on blocks, redo Dirac and watch a movie :)
