Some times it just happens.

Tuesday morning just as I was leaving for work I heard some water overflowing somewhere.

Within in 15 minutes 1.2 tons of water had emptied into our lounge room.

Fish losses were minimal, no HiFi was harmed but the floors carpet and furniture is doomed.

Insurance was on the job that day with dryers and dehumidifiers but I think the damage is beyond all that.

The twins survived as did the Illuminators, luckily both lifted high enough of the floor.

I had to wait for the tank to totally drain to get the fish out into buckets. The only way to get them out was while they lay flat on the drained sandy bottom. While there was still water they just thrashed about.

By the look of it some flooring needs to be pulled up and replaced, particularly directly under the tank. Apparently they treat fish tank water as Cat3.

We'll see to total effect once the tank and cabinet is removed.

Ouch.   I used to keep Discus.  A lot of money just in the fish.  Hope you saved them.

Although most were scratched and knocked around I only lost one and a hand full of Cardinals. The remaining Discus are recuperating in other smaller tanks.

Now tell us what really happened....You played GG "Hey Song" a wee bit too loud didn't you

But seriously blimey that's a heck of a lot of water to have to deal with. Glad no audio was harmed as floors & furniture are way easier and cheaper to replace that the gear in your joint!!!

Gee whizz Joz.  It happens in three's - first the Illuminators, then the fish tank...having been to your house and listened to your set-up, have you checked your house foundation lately???

2019 is almost over, hopefully your run of luck will turn for the better in 2020...

All going well the Illuminators are being broken down this week by Stuart to get them ready for the new sub drivers.

Was planning on doing it closer to the date they'd be installed but now that they need moving out for the major home repair thought better sooner than later.

This used to be my worst nightmare when I had a large tank.

Very sorry to see this happen to you, and I recall looking at that setup after you posted pics once, was awesome.

Wow, I feel your pain. We had a 2000ltr tank crack 5 days after moving into a new place. I'm still scared with 6000ltr's in the lounge now lol. The clean up is not fun. Glad to hear no damage to the stereo pieces. Did you manage to save the plants as well?

Looks like the seam has let go along the bottom. How old is the tank? I know one builder that has a 5yr warranty on his tanks. Is there any foam under the tank? From the pics it looks like the tank is flat on the timber which wouldn't help. A tank that size would need at least 10mm medium density foam under it.

Good luck with getting it up & running again.  A house isn't a home without a tank :)

Yep it's always in the back of your mind.

The tank was about 20 years old and it's actually sitting on 30 mm of foam, though it is hidden behind the timber trim.

Though I feeling like that's it for the tanks now.

Had it happen twice to me, luckily only with 200 litre and 150 litre tanks, devastating when it happens, glad the insurance company came to the party for you and the hifi was safe.

Would need a large moat :D drain to mitigate.

I see the fish are all lined up in an orderly fashion to calmly exit tank in this case of emergency ..

indeed good insurance company Joz ? Do post who are If doing right thing by you :)

Happened to me as well - about 250 litre tank, big crack up the front glass.  Luckily I was in the next room when it happened.

OUCH! That's really bad luck, I shouldn't laugh, but the look on the Discus face nearest the camera, I could just imagine it's saying to the other fish, 'Oh ****.... hey guys I wouldn't be all hanging about there if I were you'.

I haven't owned an aquarium in years, and I never had one fail on me like that.

My last one was 1500 liter Salt water tank.

Was your tank custom built or of a stock size ?
