d_caruso Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 Item: Matched pair Telefunken 12ax7 tubes Location: Perth - will post within Aus. Price: $280 Item Condition: excellent - test as new Reason for selling: surplus Payment Method: EFT to mobile Extra Info: Ribbed plates. Tested as new With matching results by previous owner. I had them as spares but they’re using up too much space in the house. They sound clear, super detailed and quiet in my phono stage. Heaps of air and tons of seperation IMO. d_caruso Posted December 8, 2019 Author Posted December 8, 2019 Hi grorr The chalky zc date code on each of them puts them at February 1961 and indicates they were made for export.

d_caruso Posted December 8, 2019 Author Posted December 8, 2019 No way to tell for sure, but I’d bet Berlin, as I believe that plant did most of the made for export tubes. I understand tubes made for export did not include a U or B or any way to definitely tell the plant they were made; just a 2 letter date code. That’s what these have.

Pretty sure both the Ulm and Berlin factories were in West Germany. These do say “made in Western Germany”. They have the diamond, so definitely one of those 2 plants.
Greg Orr Posted December 8, 2019 Posted December 8, 2019 wow 1961 ULMS that's very early. earliest ones ive had are 63's wish I could afford these I love there sound. paid 350 recently for a pair of 63 nos ulm ones. they were absolutely mint with labels box etc Ive tried many many tubes through my schiit Mjolnir amp over the last few years but the telefunkan ULM ones sound by far the best in my system.
d_caruso Posted December 9, 2019 Author Posted December 9, 2019 Not sure these are Ulms, but what you say is really interesting. I’ve had a swag of Teles (my setup at the moment likes Mullards/Amperex/Brimar better) and have noticed differences between them, even with the same plate type and roughly the same period, but I hadn’t compared plant to plant. I’ll have to dig some out and do some critical listening.

ULM ones are the bee's knees by the look of the diamond on the bottom of yours I believe that's what you have. there incredibly rare to get good low usage or new ones and especially matched...
