I have been looking for a way to connect Spotify to my stereo system remotely.  The quickest easiest way was a Chromecast audio  that I have.   This worked well, but I had a feeling the SQ wasn't as good as it should be.

Now, I have been running Volumio on an rPi with a USB DAC - a Fiio E10K.    The Spotify connect would not work.  I have been finding Volumio to be flaky a lot lately.  Too many niggly bugs.    So I downloaded the latest Moode.  After getting my mind around the different setup, I got the built in Spotify connect to work  (it's built in - not a plugin like Volumio).

Immediately I am hearing better sound. (yes both were set to 320k so it's a fair test)  Looks like the little $100 Fiio is a lot better than the Chromecast audio.  (of course I could invest in an external DAC for the chromecast, but it's better getting all my music through the rPi anyway.  So I am happy with the morning's experimentation :)
