stevoz Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 (edited) Was never a huge fan of Mental As Anything but they were a lot of fun and Mr Andrew Smith was a true gentleman with a heart of fun and positivity.....which sadly failed him yesterday. His last performance with the band was at Tathra NSW just last Saturday night. Only 63 years young........RIP Greedy https://www.smh.com.au/culture/music/mental-as-anything-s-greedy-smith-dies-aged-63-20191203-p53gbn.html Edited December 3, 2019 by stevoz 1

Wimbo Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 Too young. R.I.P. Greedy. Use to see them with Rose Tatoo at The Stage Door or Downunder Room back in the 70's near Central, Sydney. Bought their first Album in Delft, Holland back in the 70's as well. Great Band.
surprisetech Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 Sad news. RIP Their live shows were still great to see. Never any trouble filling the dance floor. I believe Martin Plaza hasn't been too well either and hasn't been in the live lineup for a couple of years. Hope he's on the mend.
BuzzzFuzzz Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 Sad news indeed. Classic Oz band, always remind me of summer. 1

He is currently on chemotherapy and not playing with the Mentals." No word on his current actual health status or prognosis. Fingers crossed that ends well. 2
metal beat Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 very sad news. I must have seen the Mentals a half dozen times over the years and they always put on a great show. RIP Greedy
zenikoy Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 (edited) I always loved the humour in Mental's songs. I'm sure Greedy wouldn't be upset with playing this one today. Edited December 3, 2019 by zenikoy 5
Flash Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 This is really sad news. I was lucky enough to do security for a couple of Mentals gigs in the 90’s. They were a fun bunch of blokes, and Greedy was one of those performers who genuinely loved entertaining people. Vale, you wonderful KFC loving man. 1
A9X Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 Sad news indeed. Because a teacher at my high school knew someone connected to them, I saw them a couple of times there and several more throughout NSW. Great fun band with some wickedly clever lyrics. Always put on a good show. Sadly we're losing all the greats from that era and the current performers are crap in comparison, at least for stagecraft.
lebowski Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 I grew up listening to the Mentals and loved the irony and humour in their songs. A great Australian band of the 80’s. Listening to Live It Up from an acoustic album ‘Plucked’ Thanks for the music Greedy.
