mattjtaylor2809 Posted December 2, 2019 Author Posted December 2, 2019 All of them? I'll chat to @darthlaker to see if we can borrow his original RL pressing!
rantan Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 If the Doors are chosen it must be either Strange Days and/ or Morrison Hotel. Forget Buckley and DSOTM.
zippi Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 I've got 2 to vote for (if ok): Pink Floyd - Wish you were here Depeche Mode - Violator 1
DRC Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 The Story Of The Flaming Lips 'Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots' | Classic Album Sundays CLASSICALBUMSUNDAYS.COM “When you see that album cover, you know that the music could sound no other way.” Wayne Coyne From an audiophile perspective the cd is a 6/10. I could host a home in Feb (or Jan) on a Saturday. 2
mattjtaylor2809 Posted December 2, 2019 Author Posted December 2, 2019 Hi DRC, Nice to hear from you, would be good to see you at one of our events but we could also do a CAS event at the winery....maybe? I'm one of the rare people who's never really heard this album although people do so it's an "audiophile" must have.interesting to hear you say it's a 6/10 for SQ. Cheers Matt

Forget Buckley and DSOTM. Really, I do prefer LA Woman & have the Analogue Productions pressing which is very good but happy to look at other albums....part of the the attraction of CAS. Word on the street is that Buckley's Grace isn't a good quality pressing & from listening to my copy I'd have to agree. DSOTM is just fantastic (I'm sorry) but it's been done to death so my preference would be Wish you were Here. Would be great to see you at one of these events. Cheers matt

zenikoy Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 If I were in Adelaide, I'd prefer to kick back and soak up Astral Weeks or LA Wonan. Though any of them would be enjoyable, maybe DSOTM is a bit too familiar for most (though the drums in Money sound mint on Gales). 2
Batty Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 Anything by Eva Cassidy. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours. ELO - Face The Music. Queen, either A night at the Opera or Debut. 1
Stump Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 My Life in the Bush of Ghosts Album by Brian Eno and David Byrne This classic from 1981 has it all and my favourite non Bowie Album. 3
mattjtaylor2809 Posted December 5, 2019 Author Posted December 5, 2019 Thanks everyone for your suggestions, keep them coming......we plan to have the final 4 contenders up for voting next week. So far I think we can say that one of the Albums will be from The Doors, another from Pink Floyd.... We will also confirm dates but from looking at what's happening in Feb, it will either be the 2nd or the 9th as The Fringe starts on the 14th of Feb. Cheers Matt 2
mattjtaylor2809 Posted December 8, 2019 Author Posted December 8, 2019 Hi All, The live Poll is now up on our FB page with x2 round to decide which album battles each other in the final. Round 1 - The Doors "LA Woman" Vs Led Zeppelin - II https://www.facebook.com/ClassicAlbumSundaysAdelaide/ This poll will be live for 7 days & then onto R2, when we have the x2 winners they will play off head to head to select our next album. If you're not on FB, please cast your votes here on this forum. Knowing the next x2 albums, there isn't going to be any losers & I'm sure all of them will be played at some stage. Cheers all Matt PS - Date still to be finalised but either Sunday 2nd or 9th of Feb. 2

mattjtaylor2809 Posted December 31, 2019 Author Posted December 31, 2019 Hi Guys, We have a winner.... Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here" has beaten LA Woman. Event details can be found at either: https://www.facebook.com/pg/ClassicAlbumSundaysAdelaide/events/?ref=page_internal https://www.residentadvisor.net/events/1362634 I'm thinking that if Kate Bush sounds as good as she did, what will this album sound like!....I'm guessing it will sound absolutely fantastic. Happy NY to you all Matt 2

My BIL has a 1982 Japanese half speed master pressing of WYWH that we will have to check out but Matt's reissue sound pretty good too! Edited December 31, 2019 by christosd 1
mattjtaylor2809 Posted December 31, 2019 Author Posted December 31, 2019 I have an original Dutch pressing, an original Aussie release plus the reissue. i think we need to organise a GTG to choose the best pressing! It won’t be the Aussie pressing but I’m keen to hear the original Dutch pressing Vs the resissue Vs the half speed.

I have this one and have owned it since 2014. I've got other pressings of this title (including the various modern represses), but this copy is my go-to. https://www.discogs.com/Pink-Floyd-Wish-You-Were-Here/release/489128 This series was extremely hit and miss, and for every CBS Half Speed winner like WYWH, there are a dozen abject failures due to various apparent mastering f@#k-ups. (https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/sony-cbs-half-speed-masters-are-a-rip-off.89533/) But if you can find a clean later version (like the one I linked, the second repress), this is a great version to spin. 2
zippi Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 (edited) @candyflip the release in your link comes up as a US issue: I am a bit confused....is it US or Japan pressing that the '43453' dead wax applies to? Or is it either/both? Not in the price bracket myself, so the question is purely academic/hypothetical Edited January 1, 2020 by zippi

Or is it either/both? Not in the price bracket myself, so the question is purely academic/hypothetical Hey bud. The release relates to the only 1982 Half Speed item on vinyl available: the one above. It's likely the mastering was actually done Stateside, but I didn't want to quibble over country origin, as I don't think it's particularly relevant nor adds anything necessarily. Either way, the mastering is the mastering and the US Half Speed on CBS, is what it is. If you ever find a copy, just make sure it's the second 'HC 43453' press for best fidelity. They do pop up from time to time at Record Fairs, and are usually less than AU$100. 1
mattjtaylor2809 Posted January 6, 2020 Author Posted January 6, 2020 Hi Guys, I have x3 copies of WYWH. From memory the Dutch pressing is supposed to be very good but I've not actually played it but will when back from o/s. Here is the link to the Steve Hoffman forum which is 17 pages long discussing the merits of the best pressings. https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/definitive-pink-floyd-wish-you-were-here-on-vinyl.257551/ I've not read all pages so anyone who does, please let us know. Cheers Matt PS - Please start to buy your tickets
