georgesgiralt Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 Hello, I've assembled a turntable using my late brother SME 3009 SII non improved and a Technics SL-150 with an aluminum arm board (not OEM). I've recently bought an AT3600L cartridge to try it's carbon fiber lever. And given the price, I won't ruin the family on it ... Someone said to me it won't match the SME low mass and low compliance compatible arm. Well it sound right to me. And I've listened rock music, pop and opera using it... So could you please explain to me what mistake I did and why ? Still trying to learn something ... Thanks for your help !
aussievintage Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 It's simply that the "match" is not as critical as may be feared. There is a wide range of cartridges that will work in most arms. I also have used AT3600Ls and AT91BLs on SME 3009 arms (and as it happens, also some on an SL-150), and as you found out, they work fine.
wen Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 the mistake is taking someone else's opinion and believing it is relative to you. Many people listen very critically to the equipments capability rather than sitting back and enjoying the music, most thing work together, how well is up to the listener
Grimmie Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Ah! very, very true wen, but the trouble is the worm has been entered into the earhole and there will now always be doubt in poor old Georges' mind that he is not getting the BEST out of his system due to this dreadful mis-match he has been truthfully, authoritatively and eruditely informed of. He is, of course all alone in this condition. NO-ONE else on SNA suffers from such a terrible and possibly terminal (for his system) affliction. 1 1
georgesgiralt Posted December 1, 2019 Author Posted December 1, 2019 Thank all for your answer. Listening to the music is actually what I do. The 3600L is not broken in yet (listened only to a couple of records ) but the music is very fine ! So I bet it will not make a bad set. As I already enjoy an ATVM95C and an ATVM95E as an addition to my trusted Grado GTE1+ (late eighties vintage) I bet I'll enjoy the cheap addition to the herd. Thanks !
georgesgiralt Posted December 2, 2019 Author Posted December 2, 2019 Still using the 3600L; Yesterday I listened to a lot of records from rock to opera. Stereo and mono. Guess what ? the cart perform flawlessly on the SME arm ! I'm happy as a clam on it's rock ! 2
