GTOJOE Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 I recently bought a BIC 980 turntable that has a Supex sm100 mk3 cartridge but the stylus is damaged. I've tried to find a replacement but only the SMM/5 version is available and it's $100. It was originally fitted with an SMM/E which I believe was the elliptic version. With a bit of research someone said the stylus for a Shure M75e would fit. Has anyone had any experience with this? I've done some googling and found many different versions of the stylus and I'm not sure if they are all compatible with each other. I plan to find a cheap one and if it works look for a higher end stylus.

GTOJOE Posted December 2, 2019 Author Posted December 2, 2019 I ordered an N75ed stylus for only $33 with free delivery. I'll try to compare it to the N95ed that was mentioned in that thread. If it works I'll look at buying a decent Jico or similar stylus.
eltech Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 (edited) http://www.decibelhifi.com.au/genuine-supex-smm-5-stylus-assembly I haven't heard it but I'm sure the conical stylus will still sound good. I was formerly biased against conical. But I am now appreciative of what they can sound like. I actually think a bonded elliptical is a worse profile than a good original conical. Conical is forgiving of some imperfections that elliptical can emphasize. Edited December 7, 2019 by eltech
SonicArt Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 What happened to this thread? I have a Supex SM100 Mk3 sitting here with no stylus, would be nice to find something that fits and works well.
