Item: Either stand or floor mount speakers
Price Range: $4k to $10k
Item Condition: Used
Extra Info:

A mate of mine is looking to replace his speakers and would like to hear what might be out there on offer. He is south east Qld based so if you are  interstate then the speakers will need to be able to be shipped securely.

He is open to looking at either stand or floor mounts.  So if you have some very nice speakers you would like to move on in this price range please let us know.

*have just increased price range from $7k to $10k to see what else might be out there.

cheers Terry

Usual questions worth asking: Type of music/listening, and what amplification will he be using?

Posted (edited)

Fair point Con,

I’ll ask the question but I believe he is mainly into 70’s - 80’s music, mainly rock, but not heavy head banger stuff.

Current Amplification is from memory a  90w tube integrated..

@TerryOI have a pair and they are not going anywhere for a long time and I have tried a fair few speakers over the years.

IMO they are better than the Harbeth M30.2 and are made with Birch Ply rather than MDF.

There are a lot of reviews out there and these are brand new with warranty.

The guy who sells these speakers is in QLD so an audition would also be possible.

A useful review

I can recommend the Spatial Hologram M3 Turbo S, as per below. This price ($3,500) is heavily reduced, and well below your friend's maximum.

Get the M3 Turbo S for less than the price of the M4 Turbo S regular price! All passive, analog design - no digital signal processing required. M25 compression driver with specially...

These speakers play all genres very well, and the soundstage, depth and detail are great. They are also very easy to drive and a 70W tube amp will do the job better than most. Bill McLean is able to provide great advice and help with shipping etc.

These open baffle concept speakers leaves most conventionally designs miles behind in virtually every category, IMO.

Cheers.

Orpheus Apollo Speakers.. Signature series (upgraded cross over, internal wiring). 80% as good as the Duntech Senator (according to Kiat who makes both speakers), but much less money than the Senator.

The new Orpheus Apollo V1 is all about "The Emotion Quotient". The most vital ingredient of the Orpheus design recipe is that...

Hard to beat these for a slim speaker. Maybe for his listening a big 12 or 15 driver may suit better

Maybe even these and have a lot to upgrade source components. These could be the bargain of the year. Both go very well with tubes

I have a pair of Dynaudio Contour s5.4.  Around 2 years old.  Direct PM me if you are interested.

When I last spoke to him he had bought some speakers as a interim measure but was still looking for something special. I have just raised the max price from $7k to $10k, let’s see what else pops up now.

Not to undermine private sellers, but Audio Connection has Dali Epicon 6es at less than $9000.00.. Reading the review by Absolute Sound is a must, though.

And they bought them from a forum member for $6k... deal to be had!

Not according to their website and their eBay advertisement.  They have them as a clearance item, and describe them as brand new.  Their website even suggests by way of pictures that more than one finish is available at that price.

For the OP's benefit, can you explain what is going on here, please?

Good to see it’s not just that pair - there must be some deals left over with Dali’s distribution swap.

They did pick up a set from a forum member for $6k though, so there should be at least that pair that can be had even cheaper.

These showed up recently.

Beryllium tweeter and it uses TAD drivers. Designed when Andrew Jones was at Pioneer/TAD. Rare outside of Japan and highly sort after.

Get your mate to do some research on these and I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t buy them.  I know I would if I had a few extra roubles.

There are some Maggie 20.7’s for sale in the classifieds that represent a serious bargain for someone looking for a world renowned speaker.

Unlikely to do better for the money if you have the amplification and room.

The tube integrated wouldn’t cut it IMHO.
